Putin explains modern day Russia, in his own words.
Written transcripts from the interviews, with only the necessary editing for readability, these interviews give us an in depth look at the reasons for the modern international issues behind the terrorists crisis, the devastation being caused by what passes for "Foreign Policy" by America and how President Putin is working to de-fang American aggression and ensure his people are protected. He makes clear that Russia has not forgotten that American dropped nuclear bombs on a defeated and non-nuclear Japan, that Germany ranged alongside the same borders that America currently is using it's European proxy - NATO - nor the stated uncompromising attitude of modern Russia "never again will Russia fight a defensive war on her own soil". He allows Putin to simply "have his say" in his own words, and in the TV series uses subtitles so that the Americans, who are sued to seeing Putin presented with a voice over of a Sergeant Major or sports coach barking orders, can understand his quiet, rational, and reasonable approach. I rate this transcript highly, but advise seeing the series in additions.

The book consists of transcribed conversations between Oliver Stone as interviewer and Putin as interviewee. The interviews are conducted over an extended period of time, up to and following the 2016 U,S presidential election. While Putin remains ever the politician throughout the interviews, one can also catch brief glimpses of the man By his own words, and actions, Putin does not like Communism. He is perhaps best described as a (Russian) Nationalist. I did not see Putin as the monster described by the American media. And I believe he would make a much better ally than an adversary. But read the book and form your own conclusions. An easy and entertaining read

Put this book and the film on your summer reading list!
I have not seen the documentary on which this transcript is based but it is difficult to believe Mr. Putin's genuineness, frankness, and candor as he responds to Oliver Stone's questions. The currency of this book as well as its accompanying film make this book a must read and the film a must view by anyone interested in contemporary European/American/Russian/Near East, and former Soviet Union policy (as viewed by Vladimir Putin and Oliver Stone and OS's references) and events. Highly recommended!

OUTSTANDING - A MUST READ
After watching the on-line interviews and now reading the book, I can only draw one conclusion. We in the West are being lied to by the main stream media. Putin is a leader who will go down in history as one of the greatest leaders yet! In fifteen years, he and his government have brought dignity back to a nation that was on the verge of collapse. To our leaders in the West - shame on you!

Glad I bought this..
I didn't get a chance to see the documentary so I loved the fact I could simply read the transcripts. Very informative. It did seem at times as if Oliver Stone had something against Vladimir Putin or the US though.

Superb book.
Superb and revealing set of interviews. The rabid demonization of Putin leads us on a road to conflict and war - if war, then Armageddon. These interviews go some distance in refuting this demonizationBetter to see it than to read it - but the book is valuable because it provides a transcript of the interviews and some additional materials.I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Saw the film and thought I'd better get the book too
Ordered two copies. Saw the film and thought I'd better get the book too. I am often being asked by friends of my opinion of the Russian president, and I believe the author did a tremendous worth of good showing Putin to the world in a new light. The film was shown in the UK already and might be still available on demand.P.S. The book is well made - Q&A format and faithful translation

Unexpected Role Reversal
The roles seem oddly reversed in this book of conversations between Putin and Stone, with Putin defending the US while Stone encourages him to bash their behaviour. Putin comes across as very cautious and thoughtful, the antithesis of Trump's, shoot from the lip, style. Not at all what I expected as there is so much, in what counts as US foreign policy, to be condemned.

Essential Reading
This is an excellent and informative book and serves as a rational antidote to the current anti-Russia rhetoric issuing from the USA neocons. Although the book doesn't give too many personal insights to Putin the man it does give a excellent idea of what Putin the President is like and particularly his intellectual capabilities. It will be interesting to see if Oliver Stone's interviews are ever broadcast in the UK, I would look forward to that.

Mr. P comes across simply as an honest ,unpretentious man with a very demanding and complicated job, his drive seemingly fuelled by a desire to get the country he loves into circulation as a partner with other countries in the world, neither submissive nor domineering..Just simply... equal.

Essential reading
Essential reading for anyone with even a passing interest in Russia, current affairs and the world in general. This work lays of the Russian side of what is happening in the world, Putin's views and the way in which the USA is currently causing trouble.
