Yes, it's great for 2 players too. We've played it with 2 thru 5 players and always enjoy the game & spending time together with family and friends.

Q: Can a simplified version be played with kids 8-9 like cover your assets?

I don't think you have to simplify this for 9 / 10 year olds, though it may be hard for them to hold all the cards.

Maybe if you used the whole deck like War, but not as itself
