American Standard 7381683-401.0070A Activate Actuator with Battery Compartment and Batteries

Precious got one of those no touch toilet that all you have to do to flush it is to wave your hand over the thing. It was cool. It lasted a couple of months. Then the battery compartment had been leaking so I got a new battery compartment. Then it leaked again. This time the wires were corroded rendering it useless. So I had to replace the entire flushing mechanism.I got this. I was a little worried. You could still flush it by pressing the button, but if I took that out I was worried I'd totally mess it up. I watched a YouTube video, and it seemed pretty easy to install. I was still worried. One would think I'd have more confidence in my Harry Homeowner skills by now. But I did it. It took about 15 minutes. It was a piece of cake. No problems. I was so happy.But could I get a thank you? Nope.

I ordered a replacement because of the battery compartment. When I received the new one, I found they changed the design to a much better water tight design. I am so happy that I ordered two even though the other toilet was ok. I change both right away. Took about 5 minutes.

My previous actuator broke so i needed a new one. Read some review and some says they have to replace monthly/yearly. I hope this will last long enough, mine is ok after ~2.5months.Update:Since my original review, the overal bad reputation of the touchless design reached me as well, but at least I can say multiple devices I havd were replaced within normal or extended warranty. I was honsetly started to think about to change to a different design/solution, but today I have received the latest device replacement AND IT HAS A REDESIGNED BATTERY HOLDER!!! Yes, the old design was absolutely garbage, was not waterproof at all, but the new one it is (see second picture) and now I have hope again the concept can work, so I keep monitoring the product, but I still recommend everybody to purchase separate warranty with your sensor!

I am writing this review over 2 months from installing the part. It worked perfect. If this part didn't work we were going to have to replace the whole toilet, so definitely saved us money.

Hard to find. The older design of this product had flaws. It has been re-designed to correct those design flaws. Batteries are encased in watertight compartment. Electric leads are protected by a water-tight connector. Moisture was past problem. These are expensive and we had 2 of them go defective under the old design for moisture reasons. I ordered one to install and one for a back-up. Pleased so far.

UPDATED REVIEW 16 Nov 2024. Apparently these are no longer manufactured or sold. I contacted American Standard and they sent me replacement tanks (yes, the entire tank). What a waste as retrofit was not possible with inexpensive parts. I would not recommend the product anymore since they tend to get damp and zap the battery connections- poor design to have these in the tank getting constantly sloshed by water. I bought one on a private seller website and it was a scam, fortunately PayPal refunded me.ORIGINAL REVIEWEasy to install (literally 5 minutes or less) and a big improvement over the original battery pack design. The actual "touchless" part with the LED lights looks the same, but the battery compartment has been redesigned and is much better. See the photos included with this review:*The photo on the right with the red arrows shows the ORIGINAL unit with battery compartment; the compartment as other reviews have noted is cheaply made and not really very waterproof, and the battery clip connector with the dual buckle design (like a 9V connector) is a failure point as it tends to get corroded and breaks easily- see the red arrows. This renders the entire actuator unit unusable unless you can repair the battery holder with splice/solder- not ideal.*The next two photos (middle and left) show the battery compartment only for the NEW/IMPROVED version that this review is describing. As you can see the actual battery pod has a hard case and top, with a nice gasket that seals the batteries well. Most importantly, the the entire battery unit unplugs from the actuator assembly, and the new version got rid of the crappy 9V 'style' dual buckle connector in favor of a new design that will detach completely from the actuator (in theory you could just replace the battery pod but I have not seen this part only for sale).It's a big improvement over the original design; expensive but if you buy this new/improved version you shouldn't have to deal with leaky batteries, only periodic AA battery replacement when the batteries run low.

We purchased this fancy toilet so my wife does not have to touch the handle, after 2 years of use, the sucker wouldn't work right, change batteries all the time and still nothing, also my teenage son, ripped the wires form the plug, so I got this unit. It was easy to install and been working great ever since.
