SHIRIN Barberries(Zereshk),4 Oz

Didn't know what to expect with these but I heard they were good for regulating blood sugar. The berries arrived fresh and plump and have remained so in their resealable bag. Slightly sour but quite tasty. Haven't noticed any physical changes but I do enjoy these with my Greek yogurt in the morning.

I have used a different brand in the past. As with any type of berry there will be different sourness / sweetness levels of batches. I was not unhappy with the purchase, they came fast and well packaged. They were still pliable and not rock hard as some dried fruits can get when they get really old, but the berries were a bit smaller than another brand I'd used before and I ended up using too much in my recipe. The batch I got also ended up being much more sour/tart than I expected, too, and that flavor overtook the entire dish. My mistake. I should have soaked them and taste tested them first and made adjustments. If you are like me and don't use these frequently and only to make a favorite dish from time to time, remember to taste every new batch you buy.

it is brown color not red as it supposed to be! It’s very old and bad quality! After 2 hours soaking in the water and several washes still I cannot get rid of the sand!

These dried berries taste and look about like dried cranberries, but smaller and (because there's no added sugar) a little more tart. But they don't taste very strong, so I sprinkle them with abandon on my cereal and just about anything else. A great way to pump up the nutritional value of about any dish! And unlike some other barberry growers, these folks sort out all the odd thorns and bizarre pieces of metal I've found elsewhere.

If you like to cook Mediterranean or Persian dishes, barberries are a great addition. They are way more flavorful than craisins or dried cranberries and can be used to give any dish a pop of flavor. I use them in pilaf, salads and with chicken and dish. Shirin brand cranberries stay fresh in the package and are a super value.
