Works very well, don't forget the tape!
So far so good, I used the old heat shield as a template to cut the new insulation before removing the paper backing. Make SURE to get aluminum tape to finish the edges if you want this stuff to look good and last, I used ADHES 2" wide heat resistant tape that I also ordered from Amazon. It worked perfect and was very thin and formed well.If you don't use aluminum tape on the edges I don't think that you can get a nice cosmetic finish, in addition I believe that the wind would eventually work under the adhesive of the insulation, get debris on the adhesive and eventually cause it to fail.In my photo you can see that I was fairly aggressive forming it to the shape of the underside of the hood, this causes the aluminum backing of the insulation to crack where you are stretching it, this was expected and easily repaired by adding some additional foil tape where I had cracked the covering.I will now be doing the engine cover on my boat and the firewall in another vehicle.Five stars, exactly what I needed.

Expensive but worth every penny
Very little waste... take all your scrap pieces and join them up like a puzzle and cover the seam with metal hvac tape ... the waste is virtually nothing so you get your money out of it. Used it to build out my tiny bus... better than any insulation out there in the market and the heat and sound proofing is unbelievable... srsly. Ive bought 4 already... I need two more rolls to finish off my pressed tin ceiling tiles, my cockpit and inside my doghouse ... please sponsor me SOOMJ ... I love you :-*

A royal pain to install ...but excellent adhesion and very good noise/heat blocking properties.
BOTTOM LINE: After looking at the various manufacturers & products here on Amazon I decided to try this SOOMJ sound & heat proofing; it works pretty well and was within my budget. (I've used Dynamat before and highly recommend their products, but they had nothing big enough for my needs that didn't cost and arm & a leg.) For the SOOMJ - be prepared to spend the longer time required to properly, carefully install this stuff - or you'll end up extremely frustrated with a complete mess on your hands.THE STORY: I recently purchased a lightly used 2014 Grasshopper ZTR mower. I had an older model for years and I did the same modification to it that I'd intended for this 'new' one: install sound baffling under the engine hood, muffler shroud, operator's seat & main deck shield in order to quiet down the beast so that I can mow for hours without suffering from noise fatigue by the end of the day. Sound & Heat baffling/insulation can be applied to pretty much anything you're trying to quiet down or protect from heat (or, in my case, both). The SOOMJ baffling arrived quickly, in good shape and well-packaged; no damage to the fairly fragile product inside.THOUGHTS: First impression was of flimsiness. I unhappily discovered that, unlike Dynamat, (which has a spongy yet cohesive cloth-like texture), this SOOMJ matting gives you ZERO chance to nudge it &fudge it during installation. It's like black cotton candy fused to a sheet of thick aluminum foil. Once that brown paper backing comes off, whatever you touch with it - and I mean ANYTHING; intentional or accidental - is glommed with the SOOMJ. It instantly sticks but thankfully is just as easily removed. However the ultra-tacky adhesive sticks to whatever it touches, including your fingers, so you may want to wear a pair of thin surgical-type gloves or else you'll be washing, rubbing & scrubbing that black gummy gunk off of your fingertips for hours. The sound-deadening material itself is fluffy, almost like cotton wadding - but about as cohesive as jello. (Imagine air-whipped black paint and you'll get the general idea.) The style I purchased was in one huge sheet, like 3ft x 6ft. I quickly discovered that it's best to make a mock up pattern of what the SOOMJ will go on, tracing it onto something like heavy butcher's paper or cardboard, then transfer the pattern onto the backing or the foil side, (I used a Sharpie marker), of the SOOMJ. Just remember: preparation is the key! Measure, remeasure and then measure one more time BEFORE you cut. The aluminum heat-blocking part of this product is fairly thin and thankfully gridded (see my pics), which makes measuring & tracing on it much easier. As I said, this stuff is VERY unforgiving. Remember: once you press it, it's stuck there! Installing it was sort of like working with a giant film of partially-liquefied gummy bears fixed to a thick sheet of Reynolds Wrap. I got better at it as I went, but regardless this product scored zero points from me for user-friendliness. LOLBut it's the end results that count and so far I'm quite pleased. I placed it around the rear engine/exhaust guard, mere centimeters from the muffler, and after over a month of mowing (in temps soaring close to 100 degrees) the SOOMJ has stayed intact, with no signs of breakdown or decomposition despite the intense heat generated inside that compact space over the coarse of a long hot summer's day. The install under the seat and on the underside of the primary deck shield are also holding up very well. The noise of my Grasshopper 930D has been noticeably quieted down. It's still loud make no mistake, but it's more like a Piper Cub now than a 747. With a few reservations I would definitely recommend SOOMJ to others. Just take the mistakes that I made to heart and hopefully you'll avoid them yourself - IF you decide to buy this product.

Excellent product as advertised
The adhesive on the back of the foam is super sticky. The intended use of the product was to replace foam egg crate insulation on my boat’s engine cover/ rear bench seat. The foam is very dense and the aluminum reflective shield is pliable. This should be a substantial upgrade to what was there prior. The product was easily cut to size with scissors and a carpet knife. As seen in the photo, the aluminum sheeting will dent, but the dense foam still keeps its shape well. The visual effects of the dented sheeting should not affect the performance. To be fair to the product, I caused the dents by pushing my fingers into the product to find the vent holes below.

Strong adhesion and close fitting, perfect for boat use
I used this product inside the fiberglass enclosure of my engine compartment that sits above the deck and doubles as a seating area. I needed to reduce the noise. The adhesion was better than expected, in fact i dont see this coming off unless you were to scrap and use some pretty tough remover. The depth was just right as i could not have the product hang into the engine area, needed a close fitting buffer, yet still needed a sound barrier. This definitely helped. Good product and price when i looked around at other comparable marine application products.

How to keep heat, sound, at bay
Installed it from the firewall (where it could b accessed) to the rear end door. Including fenders. Removed rear seat to install beneath it. Has made a 10-15 dB difference and cut heat transfer into the cab. Took 2 rolls for the 2-dr yj. Great stuff.

Good product just not as sticky as I thought it would be
Getting sound perfectly takes away the heat but I just didn't seem as sticky as I thought it would be for adhesion on the floor

Easy peezy
Was easy to cut and easy to apply. Seems to stay put when applied. I like it.
