Couldn't buy a cheaper battery with a clear conscience -
Couldn't buy a cheaper battery with a clear conscience.... When ex-GF returned to Montana from several years in Santa Fe, I installed the 'Red Top' version of this battery in her Subaru as that's the wrong state to find your battery is dead... I installed a heavy duty yellow top in my vintage 2004 BMW330Ci which I only drive occasionally during the Summer, so its batteries spend a lot of time on a 12V charging tender and when I want to drive it I really DO NOT want to hassle with a weak or flat battery. NOTE: the install mentions connecting the battery overflow hose to either the left or right venting port. What they don't tell you is the 3/4" vent port hose coupler is part of the red plastic shipping cap covering the Pos terminal and needs to be pried off the square cap. the vent holes are tight and if you use tools (like pliers to get it into the vent hole) you can easily deform the coupler and you'll tear your hair out trying to couple it. The couple also may be a really close fit to the battery bay bodywork so you may wan to insert the coupler in the battery before dropping it into the bay cause the battery is super heavy and if you drop this nipple coupler into the bay, it's a real pain in the ass to pull the battery out to find the coupler. Also, there is a very slight diameter difference to each end of he coupler so try both ends for the vent hole and tube and see which works better for you. The fit was perfect and required no adjustment for the BMW. Some battery fitment guides tell you the battery is too large and to use the next shorter size which is about 1" shorter in length so you may want to do some measuring as their bracket kits are around $50!!! Otherwise, it's one of the best batteries you'll find. Check your old battery/bay dimensions and don't 'bubba' up the overflow hose coupler.

3 year warranty
My husband bought this type of battery a few years ago and both batteries work great in Montana sub zero temps. Recently, the batteries in our newer truck died, so we bought another set here on Amazon. They are working well too. The extra cold cracking amps make a significant difference on the cold mornings. The payment plan Amazon offers has been helpful too.

Very long lasting if taken care-of. Use on cars, whole house generators, sump pumps, whatever.
I consider Optimas the best battery for any use, cars or the home. I was not happy with the fit in our Acura TLX but I assume that's the problem with a "universal fit". The quality remains high and these have powered high compression (11.25:1) muscle cars, grocery getters, whole house generators and basement sump pumps. Very expensive compared to most but if you keep cars and stuff as long as I do, I have definitely saved money. More importantly, I have peace of mind. The Yellow Top on the genny has lasted eight years with a float charger. It cycles once a week and the starter winds strongly each time. I have a Red Top of undetermined age sitting on a float charger in the garage ready for the next emergency.

Quality product direct from manufacturer
I’ve owned over ten Optima batteries in my Jeeps and boats. Pay a little more, get a lot more. Amazon makes it easier. Made my purchase in November, the battery was built in August.

2 Dead Optimas
Bought one locally dated December 2021 on battery, started being unable to start my Jeep by December 2022 if it sat for more then 1-2 weeks. Went back and forth with AZ, they wouldn't warranty the battery if it passed the Cold Cranking Amp test (which it did), it would just self discharge with nothing attached to it, at a rate of roughly 0.125v per day. Past 2 weeks the battery was too low to start vehicle. Optima support said AZ has to warranty it and refused to help. Bought one off Amazon and received it in May 2023, it appeared to be brand new and shipped very recently from the manufacturer. Tested it about an hour after it was delivered : it was 10.5v. To be clear a fully charged Yellow Top should be about 13-13.2v. Typically 0% charge is considered somewhere around 11.5v, and most vehicles won't start that low. Additionally, on Optimas website they state anything below 12.4v causes sulfation which will permanently degrade the capacity of the battery (especially the longer it is that low). Hooked up a battery tester I have that claimed about 50% State of Health. I don't know if Optima is failing with this model battery in specific. I don't know if they've changed manufacturing quality since they were sold in 2019. I just know this is not anything like the 2 dozen+ red, blue, and another yellow top optima I've bought in the past 2 decades for various applications. For ex: I bought 3 blue tops around 2019-2020 for my RV/solar, one of which I never installed, and it read today (roughly 3 years later) still 12.5v. It lost considerably less charge in 3yrs then this brand new yellow top did in the couple weeks it took them to ship it to me. Over the decades I've also had multiple red tops on other vehicles that can sit for months, and NEVER hesitate to start, even sitting in -20c temps. While this review only has a couple of people stating similar problems, look at the slightly smaller Optima DH6 Yellow Top reviews on Amazon, and you'll see DOZENS of other people describing this exact same fail pattern of self discharging, dead on arrival, and unable to start car after it sits for a week or so. I'm unfortunately going to probably go back to one of the other AGM H7 clone batteries from a local store. I got 3 years each out of those before, and they were half the price almost of this junk battery. Optima may have lost my business permanently, but I doubt they care, if cutting quality and costs makes them more money.

Good Deal
Fit perfect in my wife’s 18 Silverado z71, I buy them here because of the no core charge and they’re better priced then the local parts place.

Good battery
So far it seems to be a good battery. The real test will be when plowing season starts.

So, you want to buy an Optima… You’re probably thinking ‘I want the best’ ‘I want something that will last a long time’ ‘I care about quality’ ‘I saw it on XYZ car show and they used them, so they must be rad’. These were all things I also thought, and why I decided to go with Optima instead of a cheap lead acid. Unfortunately not a single one of those thoughts was proven to be reality. 1: It died! Within FOUR MONTHS! It DIED!!! Are you kidding me!?!?! Ya, I live in a very cold climate, but every battery I’ve ever owned has lasted at LEAST 4 years. NOT FOUR MONTHS! I even keep a heated battery blanket plugged in man!! Brutal!! 2: Warranty. I was away for work and thought, ‘Hey, I’ll just order it through Amazon, that way it’ll be ready for me when I get home’. TERRIBLE decision! Need warranty? Seller WILL NOT HELP YOU! You need to go through Optima directly. I have still not been able to get help so…. So far I have ZERO refund/replacement, and the most expensive and heavy paperweight I own (although it is fantastic at holding down paper, see point 3). As I need a truck to drive, I went and bought the cheapest battery “Big Canadian store that sells Tires” had to offer… It’ll probably last years without issue, and if it’s doesn’t, GUESS WHAT!? They’ll replace it with a prorated warranty right then and there. 3: It’s HEAVY. I’m not sure what the difference is, but it’s about 15+ pounds heavier than my standard battery of the same size. Difficult to install, and then have to uninstall 4 months later. Convenient if trying to build upper body strength, but honestly a gym membership is way cheaper. 4: Cost. When I purchased it was cheaper than currently, at around 3X a lead acid from CT. Now it’s like 4-5X the price, which is insane! WHY DID I BUY THIS!?! You’re probably thinking, ‘that won’t happen to me’, ‘this guy’s just an idiot or doesn’t know things about batteries’. Maybe… Maybe my expectation of a battery lasting more than 4 months is unrealistic… OR! Maybe, save yourself a bunch of money and pain and just buy a normal battery from a normal store that offers a normal warranty. Trust me friend. Take my advice and save yourself from this anguish. So overall, nothing but L’s for this item. I will never buy an Optima again. I’ll be sure to tell all my car and truck buddies to never buy Optima’s, and I’ll make sure to tell my nieces and nephews who don’t care about cars at all that Optima’s are garbage just to cover my bases. Same goes for the seller. Thanks for nothing and no support. You suck!
