Great technical book for kids, best with some programming experience and adult help
I bought this book for my 8 year old, now 9. It's a good technical book with great layout and formatting that makes it easy to read and follow the examples. For an 8 or 9 year old it is pretty advanced and works best if the kid has already had some basic experience with programming. Even with some programming experience the book works well if the kid has an older sibling or parent to help them when they get stuck.

Great beginner -> advanced iOS guidebooks
This book is a great comprehensive introduction to developing iOS mobile apps with Swift. Some sections took me longer than others to fully comprehend due to density of certain concepts — If you follow every section in this book and build the projects alongside the instructions you will know everything you need to to develop a full-functioning app worthy of the app store

Good book but was hard to find the downloadable files.
I'm working my way through the chapters and like it so far. For the most part, it's clearly written and well illustrated However, in Ch 9 (p125), I couldn't find the downloads they said was available for the practice app for a while. I looked carefully on the website mentioned in the book, but nothings said 'zip file download' clearly. Finally, I clicked on a link which said 'Download the sample code from the book', which gave me what I needed. In any case, I like that the book, although aimed at kids, speaks to me, a coding adult newbie in a non-patronizing way. Looking forward to going all the way and getting comfortable with Swift.

Newbie? Buy this book!
Don't overlook because of the "for kids" in the title. It's a solid introduction to the subject. The writing style, sample code, and explanations are for anyone who is interested in learning IOS programming with Swift. I hope the authors continue developing books on this subject. They did a great job with this book and I hope to see more from them in the future.

I enjoyed the general layout
I agree with the other review that it starts out strong but weakens in later chapters. I enjoyed the general layout, graphics, and learning curve although some parts of the book seemed like you're reading a foreign language - you read it over a few times and still wonder what the heck you just read. A little much for most kids. My biggest disappointment is that the current version of X-Code doesn't like some of the code in the book - which, when you're learning, stinks!

Very glad I did
The idiots guide and for dummies both had mediocre reviews so I decided to go with this. Very glad I did. As an engineer with an aptitude for programming I found the book neither boring nor patronizing. As a newbie to Macs, Xcode, and Swift I appreciate that there were no skipped steps to leave me scratching my head. GOOD JOB!!!

Easy to start for a beginner and a nicely sectioned. Easy to read too.
I am teaching Swift programming and iPhone App development for kids and found this book very easy to follow and am able to put a lesson plan together with the help of this book. My students use this book as part of their course material. So I bought several of these.
