Not bad
I liked that this was actually a story. Not some endless, senseless screwing, hitting things and destroying things and people. What I didn't like is the way Hollywood portrays homosexuals. It's like they've never seen any. Not a single current movie, unless it's a comedy, shows them for what they are and clearly shows the attendant behaviors, mannerisms and all the concomitant things which go with being a homosexual. And that's what really ticks me off about modern TV and film, it's kind of dishonest. There are very few who behave like their movie simulacra. Most comport themselves very differently.

Keeps ya guessing!
Great plot, novel aspects from start to finish. Lost a point due to unnecessary gratuitous sex scene and excessive political pushing.

This movie had a good plot
I am not a fan of Mark Wahlberg, or Russell Crowe as a person, but the acting was a good fit this film . I like the twist at the end when everything was going to be exposed, and the Private I found out he was on a video killing a man in cold blood. True to life I must say. the past can come to bite you in the arse.

A GREAT Movie, Amazon Misses a Bit of Trivia though...
Michael Fasbender was right to turn the role down. Mark Wahlberg was the BEST choice to pay Taggart. There is a bit of extra Trivia here about Russel Crowe, however. Two of the Trivia bites mention that 1.) Crowe turned down the role of Logan/Wolverine in X-Men (2000) AND 2.) was replaced in the lead role in Bax Luhrmann's 2008 film Australia, also starring Australian actress Nicole Kidman. What Amazon DID NOT mention, but I thought it worth adding is that BOTH of these roles were eventually given to Hugh Jackman, another "down under" A-lister. You dropped the ball on this one, Amazon.

A slow burner, but worth it
Broken City has attracted more than its fair share of negative criticism. Perhaps people were expecting more of an `action movie' out of it? Mark Wahlberg keeps his shirt on throughout the whole film and plays a disgraced cop who is forced to get by as a private eye. Then his old friend - Russell Crowe - the mayor of New York, hires him to look into his - apparently - cheating wife.Naturally, nothing is what it seems. However, we don't find much out in the first half of the movie, where Marky Mark spends his time aimlessly wandering from one meeting to another. I can see a lot of people tuning out because of this, but, if you can put up with Russell Crowe's bizarre tan and hairpiece, then you may enjoy the second half a lot more - where character after character drops bombshell after bombshell. It's basically a political thriller about how corrupt those are with power are and it has enough original twists and turns in it to make it stand out over the rest - just don't expect wall to wall shoot outs (and don't expect many juicy revelations in the first half!).

'CONSPIRACY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME'
must admit I was all set to give the film a score of 3 stars, however thefinal third rescued it some.the main story starts during a election campaign in which the long-termmayor 'Nicholas Hostetler' has some catching up to do, the corrupt officialisn't to bothered how it's achieved in truth.he hires a private eye 'Billy Taggart' who years before he had saved fromcertain imprisonment on a murder charge, he offers 'Billy' 50.000 dollarsto gather evidence against his wife who he claims is having an affair,it's a lot of money to 'Billy' right now, so he accepts the job.however the Mayor isn't being truthful of his motives, after a killing'Billy's' client loyalty becomes a matter of conscience, he feels he'sbeen played.a superb cast-list, sadly the film struggles to hold ones attention earlyon, it seems a long wait before the film becomes a whole lot more interesting, and the plot unfolds.

"Broken City" is a gripping drama/thriller set in the middle of a New York mayoral election. Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe head up an impressive cast and make the film what it is.Wahlberg plays an ex cop who is now a private investigator and who is hired by the incumbent mayor to get proof of his wife's adultery. However Wahlberg soon gets immersed into a web of corruption ,intrigue and murder which all seems to lead to the mayor's office. There is a sub plot featuring Wahlberg's relationship with his girlfriend, but this ends rather abruptly and was unnecessary to the plot. Wahlberg's young assistant would have made a much better love interest. The acting in this film was good , as was the storyline ,which was however a little over complicated at times. A reasonably intelligent movie.

Not great
This film is alrite only n to be honest i would have given it two stars if going off empires rating system which would mean i found it watchable or fair. The acting is ok as is the noir setting. the script ain't bad and the premise is quite promising too. the main issue i have with this film is that not much happens for long periods of time and i found myself getting a bit bored. the film kind of stayed at the same stale climate the whole way through and failed to evoke any real excitement or intrigue until the very end with a very slight, but albeit interesting twist. Yeah, so like i say overall a watchable movie but not one i would buy if i were you.

A good film
This is a good thriller I was about to give up on it when I was a third of the way in but I'm glad I didn't it was a good story. My biggest problem is with amazon as I'm an amazon prime subscriber and often pre order films well in advance so I can get the film on its release day but on the last three occasions I've been let down. I don't know why they keep using Royal Mail as it never arrives on time when they do, so come on amazon I use prime so I get next day delivery or at least that's the idea.
