Bawdy segments include the dawn of man, Moses, Nero, the Inquisition and the French Revolution.

The movie is great
However since the frames are much larger you get to notice the set elements in the movie rather than believing is landscape. Quality is good, but the actual film that this was recorded on may not be of the quality of digital film recordings of late so I am not sure if a lot of work as been done to remaster it for digital quality. But it is better quality than the SD version.

Classic Mel Brooks
More of a selection of skits across time than an actual movie, this is a classic but will not appeal to everyone.

New film coming out
Have wanted to see this for a while and with part two coming out thought was the best time to get it, it's OK like having 3 or 4 short films in place of 1 long one, don't like how a bit is going skip to the next bit nothing lost. As said overall OK, worth having to complete the set.

Mel Brooks at his best
This is how history should have been. Charting the development of ape men and their significant discovery (not the music, the other one!) right through to the French revolution where we discover that the very poor were in fact that poor they could not afford a language, only a lousy accent! This is Mel Brooks at his best. The best segment for me is the Roman Empire (look out for Josephus meeting Oedipus). Watch and enjoy.

A History Lesson?
I still consider this to be one of the best of Mel Brooks films. I think it works because the film is broken down into different areas: the caveman area, the Roman empire, the Spanish Inquisition, the French revolution. If the film had covered only one area then it would have appeared too long and not been so enjoyable.I have watched this film over the years and enjoyed it every time.

Not the Best Mel Brooks Film
I bought this on the recommendation of a mate, his sense of humour is obviously slightly different to mine - some very funny bits, but then a lot that aren't. Whereas Blazing Saddles - Hilarious!! much better choice.
