Household Friendly
I started using these dryer balls when my daughter was born (now 7 mo) to avoid any toxins or irritants that could be transmitted from dryer sheets to her clothing to her skin. They are highly effective at achieving my aim (reducing irritants and improving efficiency of dryer). They are household friendly because they are non-toxic, reduce drying time, require little to no maintenance, and don't need to be frequently repurchased (like dryer sheets). Two drawbacks I have experienced: one, they can give quite a good banging around the dryer drum during the cycle so if your dryer is near the bedrooms, this can be a minor hassle; and two, they don't completely eliminate static. They had been reducing our laundry static by 70% but now they are not reducing static much at all so I'm not sure if that means it is time to replace them. I will have to inquire with the manufacturer. And one last unsubstantiated complaint is that my husband seemed to think they were making his clothes "ratty" but I'm pretty sure this is a natural occurrence that happens through the process of washing/drying (threads come loose or are removed over time) and not due to the dryer balls. In summary, this product deserves a 4-start rating because they do what I bought them to do, I like using them and I would recommend them to others.Note: I have not tried other brands of dryer balls. This was my first purchase of wool dryer balls.

Not bad
I can say it does fluff, as the towels come out fluffy and nice. I'm not sure how much time it cuts back on drying, for me it's not significant. My laundry room is in the basement which makes the clunking in the dryer a non-issue, it might get annoying on a main floor tho. I am curious if these balls can be infused with an essential oil and will be expierementing with that. Perhaps a little pricey and doesn't really cut back on static electricity to my level of satisfaction, I would just say use your judgement. I'd assume it's a bit better than just tumbling a 20$ bill with your clothes, but maybe about the same.

Replaces dryer sheets
I purchased these dryer balls when we switched to cloth diapers and were no longer able to use dryer sheets (which interfere with the absorbency of the diapers). They seem to work well on eliminating static, but I haven't noticed a significant change in drying time. I do feel better about not using a disposable option and will continue to use them for the static properties. Also, as suggested by other reviewers, I might try using more than three balls per load to impact the drying time.Of note, they tend to pill up, but it doesn't bother me as they just sit in the dryer and no one ever sees them anyway.

Excellent Replacement for Clothes Drying & Softening
I bought these last year since I'm trying in every way to remove harmful chemicals from all parts of my daily life...and these were an excellent choice. They may shorten the drying time somewhat, as far as I can tell not by a great margin, depends a lot on how much your drying, but my main purpose for getting them was to soften my clothes but eliminate chemical fabric softeners of all kinds, and these definitely do the trick and are the main benefit of this item. They soften my clothes, eliminate static (which I thought at first was going to be their main downfall). I'm so happy with these that I'm buying them for family to prove to them how well they work and encouraging everyone I know to use them. The nice smelling fabric softeners most people use are harmful--those are artificial scents and softening agents and are considered indoor pollutants that can irritate the skin. The only drawback I've encountered with the dryer balls is that you have to use them with larger loads or they tend not to be effective in eliminating static (doesn't have to be a lot of clothes, but if you're just doing a few towels or undergarments they aren't as effective on static, although once I put the clothes away, the static dissipates after a while so maybe it's a delayed effect). Generally I only use three of the balls, so I'm going to try using more. But I generally just make sure to have enough clothes to dry. Besides it forces me to cut back on the number of loads I dry.Highly recommend these, particularly if someone has kids or older adults whose skin may be sensitive. Also recommend it for anyone dealing with their own or a family member's respiratory problems. Those heavy perfumes and chemicals from typical washing and softening products stay in the clothes even after the clothes are dry and continue to be inhaled and affect sensitive skin.

Tripled my drying time
Maybe I got a defective set, but these dryer balls were a miserable failure for me. I was hoping to reduce drying time; instead, on every load I tried, drying time was at least tripled. In some cases it took more than three hours to dry a regular sized load of laundry. I thought maybe the dryer had broken, but my husband insisted we try a load without the laundry balls. Amazingly enough, we were back to our normal, original drying times.I am so unhappy I spent the money on these and so unhappy I cannot return them. Also please note these do not come with the basket that's shown in the picture.--Update--The dryer times slowed down again soon after I wrote this review. The dryer repairman checked and nothing was wrong with the dryer itself. It turned out that birds had built a nest in our dryer vent chase, partially using the wool from one of these balls that had partially disintegrated. So, it wasn't totally the dryer balls' fault.
