Love the richlite. Ordered another knife with same material immediately after receiving this one
I have three other Mini Sheepdog’s but this one had a few pleasant surprises that even the more expensive models don’t have. This model has a removable flipper tab! Clearly Kizer was paying attention to customer feedback, no surprise from such a good company. A lot of people say the flipper tab is ugly as well as making the shape of the knife not as smooth. Personally I don’t mind the flipper tab. In my opinion it just adds to the fidget factor. I can only Spidey flick(using middle finger) so many times before my hand starts fatiguing. The flipper tab I can use again and again and again. If you are someone who doesn’t like the flipper u can remove it without even having to take off the scales. In my picture u can see there is a small hole near the pivot to give u access to the screw. Another new addition I am loving is the richlite material on this particular model. I have a regular sized sheepdog with blue richlite on it, while it is really nice I like the smooth red A LOT more. Whenever the blue richlite is used it has an embossed pattern covering all of the surface. By the way richlite is made from recycled paper which is layered & then compressed with a resin at high temperatures. While the material is lightweight it has the look and feel of high quality. It is completely smooth to the touch but it has the appearance of a leather type texture. The rest of the knife is done just as well. The black coating on the blade is immaculate, certainly not something you’ll have to worry about scratching or wearing away. In addition to a top notch build the mini sheepdog is and always will be an iconic design. For anyone who is into collecting knives or even mildly interested in folding knives u need to have at least one sheepdog in your collection. I will shed a tear for those of you who missed out on what was definitely the sale of the year on Kizer knives. Yesterday they had about 70 different models 50-60% off. As of today they bumped the prices back up for about half of those that were 50% off or more. I knew that wouldn’t last long. Currently there is still about 30-40 Kizer knives at 50% off but they are beginning to sell out. If you’re reading this within a few days of it being posted u may get lucky and still find some with the same discount. Either way, all the more reason to hop on here every few days just to check prices on things youre thinking of buying. While great deals pop up on amazon every now and then one thing is for certain, the prices disappear just as quickly. I wish they gave u a date and time for how long the sales will last. I can’t tell u how many times I’ve seen an item marked down and decided to wait a bit before purchasing & when I came back a few hours later the price went back up. Sale or no sale this is still an awesome knife. I’ve paid a lot more for some of the Sheepdog’s I own & don’t regret paying for them one bit. If u don’t own one already you’re missing out. This knife is certainly a classic within the knife community

KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog
If you're familiar with the KIZER Knives C01C Vanguard Sheepdog XL then this much smaller KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog is the perfect addition to your knife collection, just in a smaller version. LOL If you're not, then the KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog is a "cute" but very useful addition to any knife collection. It is an identical scaled down copy of it Big Brother, the KIZER Knives C01C Vanguard Sheepdog XL. Right up front, if you have large hands, this might not be the knife for you unless you're looking for a small knife as I have larger hands and I'm only able to get my first three finger on the knife unless I adapt a pinch grip in the knife's pivot point with my thumb and fore finger and then grip the knife with the other 3 fingers. This "cute" while usefully practical little knife is far more EDC friendly than the much larger XL version. Foe those, like myself, wondering just exactly how small this knife really is and the comparison image I had seen online really don't do it justice, the KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog is in the size range of the CRKT Large Pilar almost exactly BUT unlike the CRKT Large Pilar, the KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog does NOT have a finger choil which makes a really great grip on this knife a bit tricky. As with most things in life, there are always trade off's. LOL The KIZER Knives Mini Vanguard Sheepdog features a 154CM blade steel which rates as a Mid-Range blade steel giving it an honest 5/10 across the board on Edge Retention, Ease of Sharpening and Corrosion with a 4/10 on Toughness. Granted, it would've been better had Kizer gone with CPM 154 blade steel but as I said earlier, trade off's. LOL Overall this is a great little knife that features a very distinctive large Sheepsfoot blade when compared to the size of the knife.

Awesome sharp knife
Update 6 years later... Needed to bump my stars up to 5 for the version I bought. My original Mini Sheepdog has been great but really got low miles on it as I was carrying another brand. But that other brand would dull out over time. This year Kizer discontinued this model that came with the extended flipper and opted to make the newer versions a thumb-hole flipper model. I ended up buying a second one and it is now my EDC. Not sure how the newer version fares, but I'm sure its just as good, but just with a different manual of arms. My 2019 review: I'm new to knives and this was my second one I bought (after a Kershaw shuffle). Bought it because of a YouTube review I stumbled across. Looks cool and is a comfortable EDC. I like the flicker capability. Mine is nice and smooth. The only thing I don't like is that the unlock function is sometimes a two handed procedure as there isn't a raised part you can push against. Blade sits right down the middle when closed which I hear is a exemplary build design. I do like my Kershaw still, so I bought a Cryo II to see how their flicker design compares.
