Prison School, Vol. 7: 5704 (Volume 7)

This series is great

The series marches along just as strong as ever with its fantastic artwork and raunchy over-the-top humor. Student council president Kate presses her plans to destroy the Underground Student Council and exact her revenge. Mari realizes her only hope is to form an unlikely alliance with Kiyoshi, escape the prison, and defeat Kate at the upcoming sports festival. Ostracized by the boys, Kiyoshi can't depend on his former friends to help. However, Gackt's discovery might be the catalyst to bring the boys back together. One prisoner gets released while an unexpected prisoner takes her place and Chiyo decides to emulate what she thinks is her sister's new behavior.

One of the marks of any situational comedy is showing the interaction between two characters who don't normally associate with one another. In this case, we have the team up that I've been wanting to see for awhile...our leading man, Kiyoshi and Shadow President Mari. At this point, the normal student council has managed to put the shadow student council into prison and the sadistic normal student council president Kate is making life hell for Mari. The Vice President has reverted to a state of helplessness and thus, Mari relies on Kiyoshi to get out of dangerous situations like having to suck out poison from snake bites and devising plans to escape from prison. There's a lot of great interaction and character development between the two and you'll see Mari really soften up on her opinion of Kiyoshi. I had a lot of fun seeing the two of them together and I would have to say this is probably my second favorite pairing, right under the interactions between Kiyoshi and Hana. Sprinkled throughout the volume are some great moments with the other including a past history of Mari and her father, Risa's attempts at fulfilling Andre's masochism, Chiyo wondering if her sister is a loose woman, and much more. This volume covers chapters 119-138. The book is beautifully done with nothing wrong that I've seen on a first read-through. I had some quibbles about the recent translation of Yen Press's other title "Love at Fourteen", but thankfully the translation of Prison School 7 is top notch. This is one of the strongest arcs in the Prison School series, and I highly recommend that you read it for yourself!

I have been following this series since Volume 1 and still continue to recommend to every person I meet that is interested in anime/manga. Yes, this is by far the most perverse manga in my collection, but if you can look past the breasts and butts you will find a hilarious and extremely well written story. Each chapter grips from start to finish and I laugh until it hurts every time. I wish I could slow down my reading so I wouldn't be already looking forward to Volume 8.

Let's be honest, if your at this point in the series, do yourself a favor and just get it when you can haha. There is a seamless transition between vol. 6 and this one. Enjoy...
