Pele and Hiiaka: A Myth From Hawaii (Mint Editions - Hawaiian Library)

I've read it more than once. Each time I learn new things. Such as when Maui drew from the ocean bed using his magic hook Manaiakalani on page 105. Later I met a Kumu hula whose name Manaiakalani.. wow.. to learn of - Hi'iaka was accompanied by Wahine-oma'o--the woman in green--a woman as beautiful as herself.. when you also read Unwritten Literature of Hawaii, by Nathaniel B. Emerson.. great stories.. If you are familiar with Joseph Campbell and his Hero's Journey outline.. These books will be a joy and a pleasure.

Mr Emerson has done a fantastic job of presenting the Hi'iaka saga and with all his footnotes it makes it very interesting and adds credibility to his research. For those studying Hawaiian history or mythology it is a must read.
