Lead and not follow.
Good book on leadership but on page 45 the section on john wayne he is wrong being in service you have rank start at the bottom and work you way up to learn something. I worked LE 27 years unpaid my early days I was told on major calls not to john wayne it and wait for help! What are we teaching today run in and get the job done and stop it.most of the time from the high staff who tolled us who wait. Jw leadership was from the cowboy code read it there's a lot of good info in it. But over all the book has very good info and with miltary structure in it.

Mentors at your Fingertips
There are some books which you can read quickly and those which you spend time absorbing. Fred Stuvek Jr. demonstrates his effective leadership by putting into your hands the words of outstanding leadership mentors.Reading this book is like sitting down with each mentor and being able to gain wisdom through their teaching. This isn't a one time read, it is a book which will become well worn, through referring back often. It is one which will be filled with highlighting and notes.

Great for leadership junkies but also for those with a casual interest
I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems and have voluntarily left this review. This was a really great collection of advice, tips and stories about leadership. I found it to be really useful and practical. You get a bit of a range of techniques and styles from different leaders. I think the collection was great. This book would be helpful for any field. Leadership isn’t confined to one job or person and this book reminds us of that. We are leaders in our every day lives. Some chapters were more interesting and helpful than others and that’s why only a four star review.

Advice that is practicable for everyone to use.
This is a a very practicable book for everyone. Each of us can be a leader in our field - teachers, coaches, business, military, neighbors. This book illustrates successful leadership techniques in numerous fields. Everyone can improve their leadership skills by leading how to be a team player, motivating others, and setting a good example. I recommend this book for those aspiring to improve their leadership skills. It is practicable for both the beginner in ones career and for those that are already experienced leaders.

A great survey of leaders
This was a very interesting read. It was intriguing to hear many different views on leadership and see what common beliefs the leaders have. Good job on getting a diverse group as well, I think that helped the overall perspective. Beyond being helpful for people already working, this would be a good study for students as well to help them gain new perspectives and have healthy debate over leadership topics.

A unique compilation of excellent advice, experiences, and stories; and it's a good read!
Fred Stuvek has done a wonderful job of taking the subject of leadership, which has had volumes of written advice and direction, and giving it a more personal, sometimes humorous, and quite insightful approach. The variety of backgrounds of the various authors will appeal to anyone who is, will be or has been in a leadership role. As a former Navy submarine captain, engineering project manager, and marine mammal research scientist I found the book a fun read and the information very applicable and encompassing!

A must read for anyone in a leadership role!
The Experience of Leadership is a fantastic collection of first-person advice from some of the great leaders of our generation. Each chapter is full of the personal experiences that helped shaped these successful people. The breadth of backgrounds- from the military to sports to business- adds a dimension not typically found in books on this subject. A great read for anyone in a leadership role, and a good gift for a young person on the path.
