Fits Perfectly
Well these reviews are starting to become a collection of old guys talking about their old gas cans! I'm going to join right in. ;-)I bought my round, 2 1/2 gallon Eagle gas can back in 1980 or so. We had just moved and I remember that being one of my first purchases after we moved into that farm house. Anyway, I used that for my chainsaw gas mix at the time. That round can is impossible to tip over! I'd toss it in the back of the pickup or in the trailer and there was never a worry about spilling. What a great product!Well here we are about 40 years later and the filler hose springs a leak. It had a little tear just inside of the cap and started to leak. I ordered this replacement part and I'm back in business. The filler connection is about 1 1/2" and the ID of the metal part that holds the rubber hose and screws on to the can is about 1 7/16". This part fits perfectly inside the metal cap with the hole in it and acts as the gasket when it's screwed on. Just used it today and didn't leak a drop.

Leaks a tad
These spouts are frustrating to use, as the whole cap leaks out the center hole (where the rubber spout goes through the hole in the cap) when you use the fuel can. It may be dependent on your brand of can, but every one I've used leaks the same way; from a little to a lot more than I'd like. Even used Channel Locks to crank down on the cap.

Poor sealing - IMPROPER FIT -
Didn't fit tightly when new and leaked a little gas when pouring. Now that I've had it for about 18 months it doesn't fit at all and fall into the gas can because it keeps shrinking in size and getting harder- less flexible. My opinion is that it is made from inferior material. The original spout lasted about 30 years without shrinking but eventually developed a crack. This replacement makes me think this is made of cheap, sub standard material. Would not recommend this product to anyone.
