This review covers my initial impression of the Innova 5310. I haven't had the opportunity to use it for an actual diagnosis and repair. The unit is well-built and has clearly readable messages on the display. The manual is well written with both a good overview of OBDII and clear directions and illustrations. I performed the first update and the directions are easy to follow and everything worked as described; it supports both Mac and Windows. This wasn't the case with a competing brand that I first bought - updates were a study in solving computer problems and the manuals were minimal. The user interface - the display and the buttons - is a little clunky but not bad and easy enough to learn. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. This review will be updated when I have an opportunity to do actual repair and monitoring with the 5310.

So, just to let everyone know, this works perfectly fine. I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota and a 2009 Toyota Camry. It read the ODBII information coming off of the Camry perfectly fine. However, the car that we needed it to read, the Dakota, it wasn't able to, particularly the ABS system. However, this is because not all ODBII scanners with ABS will read every vehicle. Ironically, it was this and another ODBII reader that the manufacturer recommended as being able to read the Dakota. But, it didn't. Obviously, there's the possibility that the computer system in the Dakota maybe malfunctioning. But, in that case, not even my Akface scanner (which just reads ODBII codes) should be able to scan it, of which it gives me a P0463 code. If you're looking for a basic scanner to read error codes the car computer gives off, a regular ODBII reader should work perfectly fine. Otherwise, if you're like me and you're trying to troubleshoot your ABS system, you'll just have to do more research to make sure this particular reader will read your vehicle.

I decided to finally upgrade from my $40 scanner I bought from Amazon about 5 years ago and went with this scanner. First off it’s very affordable for the features it comes with. I’ve seen reviews of people saying it’s difficult to use and what not. For me it was fairly simple. Yes, it was a bit of a learning curve but not difficult by any means. It will read engine, transmission and Abs codes. My favorite feature is the ability to connect to an app on your phone which lets you really see the different possible fixes for your code as well as it give you links to where you can buy the parts you need to fix your issue. You can see live data, but the best feature I found was you could get a vehicle history report through the app for only $10 which is much cheaper than car fax. For someone who flips cars that is an amazing affordable feature. I still have yet get a good use out of it, but from what I’ve seen it is a great product 100% recommend.

I'm a do it your selfer and I looked at several of these code readers and reviews for them. This fit my needs perfectly and combined with the app and all the information it gives has impressed me very much. I wholeheartedly recommend this for someone who likes to work on their own stuff. Great price and I'll value this for a long time to come.
