Backups are Crucial, Do it Right with WD My Passport Ultra
There is no reason to not be backing up your data, and there is no reason to not be using the WD My Passport Ultra to do so. Not only is it incredibly simple to use, but it is slick and beautiful as well (especially the new white model). No matter what size you need, they have you covered and have kept the prices as affordable as you will see for such a fantastic item. My favorite feature(s) have to be the data encryption, and the fact that it is so easily portable. Both of those are selling points to me, and they nailed them.My experience: Packaged well and without excess wasted materials. I had to set it up differently to work on my MacBook Pro, than someone with a PC, but it was painless and I was up and running in 10 minutes or less. The drive has worked flawlessly and has brought peace of mind back once again after not having a functioning external hard drive for far too long.Looks great, works perfectly, keeps your data secure, and is easily portable. 5/5 Stars and highly recommended!

Small but mighty!
I helped a friend set up a new computer and again when she acquired a malware infection. She had one of these little Passport drives. I liked it so much, got one of my own. White version, 1TB.I've been using it about 8 months now, still love it.For me, it has a whole bunch of pluses:Western Digital has always been my choice for external backup hard drives. Good rep.1TB is more than I need to backup my tons of photos, recipes, email, tax returns, and other important records on my laptop PC.The small physical size is a HUGE plus.It has 4 very tiny rubbery feet which help it stay put.Uses only ONE cord - USB. It does NOT require an electric outlet. Yaaaa.I used to use one of the standard large external drives, also WD, but it took up too much precious space, got knocked over a lot, and required an electric outlet, which are in short supply in my computer area. (Landline phone, modem, router, tv, printer, smartphone charger, charging laptop etc.)I plugged it into a USB port and let it sit on my 17" laptop - lower left corner. That's it. Fits perfectly and so small it doesn't interfere with using the keyboard. This works for me because I don't have a desk. I move the laptop from the table next to my chair to my lap frequently. After all, it is a LAPtop, not a desktop or table top PC. <grin> My Passport moves with my laptop. I have a 17" monitor/keyboard area, so there is room for it. Not sure if it would fit in the same spot with a smaller laptop. If you use your laptop at a desk, or just plug in the Passport once a day to do backup, not a problem. I just prefer keeping it connected all the time. I prefer a mouse over the touch pad, but this is small enough that keeping it on the left side of my laptop does not cover the touch pad, should I need to use it.I use a third party software which checks for changes hourly and backs up any I made. So far, have not needed to use it for restore purposes, but sooner or later, hard drives fail. I have no doubt it will save the day when that happens. However, even external hard drives fail, so to be safe, I also have a cloud backup just in case. Can't be too careful.

Initial Flakey Cable
Works good so far. My reason for -1 star is I really wish this came with a small push button to turn it on/off (cut usb). This would save on having to yank a usb cable all the time and putting it back in if you dont want the drive always running or on.The drive itself seems fine, I think, I hope. However the cable they provided is flakey as all heck. The standard end (the one that plugs into your computer) is extremely touchy. If the cord or the plug housing itself is 'bumped'... the drive acts like it was ejected. This is pretty annoying with a laptop given the close proximity to the keyboard this plugs into. Its not the computer port, because I tried it in all three ports! And since the cable for this WD Passport is not-standard, I cannot just use any other cable I have that I know fits snug and proper.* Updated *I talked with WD support, and they were gracious to send me a new cable free of charge to fix the issue. And it worked out, and works great now, without jiggle-risk. WD has always had great customer support.

A Great Buy
This is the first time I have ever bought an external hard drive. Did not really know what to expect from this thing but gave it a shot. I've been using this thing for a while now and have not run into any problems with it at all. I was a little nervous because I used sd cards a lot and always get a notification that something is wrong with the card or that there's a card reading error or something like that. However I have not received anything like that with this thing. I am into media and music so I use it for storing extra project files, movies, videos, and pictures that I am working on. I use it between my surface pro tablet and laptop a lot but have not run into any errors or complications what so ever. I take very good care of it so it is always in my backpack or at home. I never dropped it so I don't know how sturdy it really is but seems like it was built with good quality in mind. It looks very nice, small, and is very light and easy to carry around. Overall a great buy.
