If you like to challenge your common sense, read it
The book approaches success and failures from a different point of view of the common sense. The writing is on point. He is a great story teller and presents the subjects clearly and easy to follow. Probably these subjects can be explained with less pages, but it is nice to read non fiction stories with a fiction language, like reading a novel. I love the small pieces in the chapters, it allows me to read like eating nuggets of knowledge. The subjects are very interesting and for sure enriches your culture.By the way, I didn’t talked about the content, to avoid spoilers.Read it. You won’t regret it.

Not Deference but
Mr. Gladwell's theory of high deference being a possible cause for crash of the Colombia to NY flight migth not be correct. While Latin culture does hold defined lines of societal authority if you have been around Latinos you could see that no amount of deference will keep them from speaking up and taking action when "the car is about to go off a cliff" so to speak. Gladwell's deference theory could hold up on government, or corporate where getting fired is the worst that can happen. These 2 pilots were obviously burnt out beyond repair, because their emotional response did not fit the situation, a deficit related to mental/emotional erosion was at play here, not cultural deference. Any other Latin pilot no suffering from what ever these 2 pilots had would have screamed to the tower " mayday we will crash if we do not land with in 10 minutes! , do not have enough fuel to fly around 2 more times. " Mr. Gladwell go spend some time with pilots from other cultures to get a broader perspective.

Really Interesting
I thought the book was really interesting. In a lot of these books that reference how and people think as they do, this one gives a little different point of view with several cool examples. My takeaway was different than many books I've read (or listened to) over the years. This one made me think more about the uniqueness of everyone's situation, and if a out of the ordinary opportunity presents itself, will you be able to recognize it before it's too late? It also really drives home the importance of the old saying of luck is when preparedness meets opportunity. I look forward to trying another of this author's works.

I purchased this book for my 25 yr old son, he requested this book.
I was excited when my successful businessman son asked me for this book because I (his mother) had read two of Malcolm Gladwell's books, "The tipping point" and "Blink". It's one of his Christmas presents. Happy reading. Linda in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.
