Don Zavier Mamajuana 1/2 Gal (Traditional)

Purchased this items a few weeks ago after I dropped a bottle my abuela made for me some time ago. The quality is superb and tastes as authentic as the bottle she gave me. Once you get past the curing stage, mamajuana can help you recover from a cold, the flu, and even heartache. The customer service was also fantastic, calling to make sure I enjoyed my purchase.

Works well feel realy good when taken. Gives me a healthy urine flow.

Advice for people buying this product. Use cheap liquor for the first batch to cure the wood. I would let it sit for three weeks (the bottle says only 5 days) then discard. It will soak into the wood and retain flavor on the next batch so use a cheap hard liquor that you will enjoy. After that, the bottle says to add rum and honey. I would say don’t do that and recommend using 5 parts spiced or dark rum, (your pick) 4 parts sweet red (think Pinot noir or mencia) and one part honey. Approximate measurements, not really a science. After aging 1-3 weeks (age will affect how strong the taste is, I go for 2 weeks but it’s preference) empty contents into a clean bottle to drink or store. You now have mamajuana. You can refill immediately for your next batch if you want. If you don’t want to make another batch right away, to store the twigs you should again fill the bottle with a liquor that you are fine discarding. After making the first batch the bottle will now have sugars and moisture and is a prime area for microbial growth. Sadly, is not realistically feasible to take out the twigs and herbs out of the bottle to dry them properly between use, so the only option is to store it in liquor to inhibit growth. Same rules apply, it will definitely be too bitter to drink after sitting for months and this will affect the flavor of the next batch so use a liquor you will enjoy. Feel free to use a mix of hard liquor and wine. Do not fill it with only wine if you’re storing this for months or years without making anything new. For storage, you want it strong enough that things like Acetobacter (essentially what turns wine into vinegar) won’t form easily. So please keep it a majority hard liquor for storage…. Unless you have a wine cellar I guess, then let me know how your next batch turns out. Hope this helps someone. On the product itself it’s great, and I really like the roots on top acting like a filter. It makes it very easy to transfer bottles when you’re done making a batch.

Just like in the DR, really good! If you haven't tried it , get it. I like to mix mine with wine. If you are looking for a really good rum, don't add wine. Otherwise, 70% rum to 30% wine. Or for really smooth 60% rum to 40% wine. Just beware you will have a major case of the Hershey squirts in the morning. Make sure to add a good 1cup - 2 cups of honey (heat it first so it mixes better).

1st time making this. Just rum and honey. Smelled nice prior to placing liquid in. This is day one. Can’t wait to throw away first batch and get on with the second so We can try it.
