Another Beautiful Tome: Superman at the Eve of the War
I love reading Superman during this period. The stories may be simple, but they do what a superhero comic is supposed to. These issues cover January 1941 until the dawn of U.S. involvement in the war. As usual Superman for the oppressed and the downtrodden, fights against fifth-columnists, gangsters, and mad scientists (including Lex Luthor) while the country rearms itself. By this time most of Superman's mythology is put in place. Clark works with Lois Lane at the Daily Planet under Chief White. He always pretends to be timid and cowardly in dangerous situations to cover up his identity. During the first issues, Lois will get the advantage of the scoops aided by Superman, but in further issues, Clark Kent beats Lois at the scoops for obvious reasons. I also notice that these stories provide Superman to show off all his super powers while dealing with villains.Although the illustrations and coloring during this period may seem simple, some of the artists are making their drawings more detailed, Jack Burnley being the best in my opinion. Jerry Siegel writes all the stories while there are a greater number of illustrators now. As usual, the tome is well presented and it is comfortable to read in spite of its 376 pages.

I liked the story content, the color, and the drawings. The act of reading these stories again had the effect of returning me to lots of childhood memories that I had long forgotten.

The Original Stories Made Available Again
This is an excellent series -- especially for those who want to read the original stories but don't have a fortune to buy the original comic books. I can't wait for the next issue.

Two of these equals an Omnibus. Great price if you get a very good one that's used.

The big bang for men in tights.
More expensive as a Kindle purchase than in print, but I carry my phone where I go. Therefore I carry this omnibus wherever I go. Good stuff.

Superman's early stories collected.
Loving these golden, silver and bronze age collections. Also, great to read a solid omnibus style collection of the earliest tales of the Man of Steel!
