Rock Solid - High Precision Hiqh Quality
We make greeting cards. We had been using a $50 guillotine style cutter. It worked but it was a little dangerous and then it got too dull and made ragged edges.I tested a Rotatrim locally and found that it could cut a few 1/1000ths of an inch off of a business card, time after time. So we purchased the 18" model RCM18.Shipping: It came on time and it perfect condition. Results: We've made 500 cards now and 100 large prints. It saves time because the cuts are so precise, you make less cuts to get it right. It cuts so square, that when you bend the card stock, it bends to a perfect card. With the guillotine cutter, the cuts were not as square and then the bends were not square. So, we would make additional cuts to get the card front to line up perfectly with the back. Safety is a great feature of this cutter. We can now let our children use this cutter. We would never let them use the guillotine cutter.Design: As an engineer with background in printing systems, I appreciate the simple hiqh quality design of this cutter. The cut is made by a sharp wheel that rides against an anvil straight edge. The wheel is forced against the anvil by a very stiff spring. The force and twisting moment of the spring is supported by the two rails. Lessor trimmers use one rail, which would make it much more challenging to reliably hold the cutter wheel against the anvil. They can resist the force, but don't have good way to resist the twisting moment. It cuts in both directions. Some high end trimmers will only cut in one direction - and that's unfortunate when you mistakenly go the wrong direction. I've done it and it ruins the print.Value: If you must have rock solid, high precision cuts, and a cutter that will last a life time - then this is the one for you. Yes it is expensive, but when you are so happy with the quality - you forget about the price.

Used one professionally for 10 years, bought one for home. THE BEST cutter!
I used a smaller version of this at work for over 10 years, cutting thousands and thousands of pieces of card.I have bought at least 4 cutters for home use, NONE of which have lasted very long, despite being between $50 to $100. I decided, enough was enough. I wanted a cutter like the one I used to use at work. I know paying $200 for a cutter seems insane, but it is WELL worth it. Sheffield steel blade, clear marking, paper stop/guide, and really accurate cutting. You can literally shave off fine pieces of your paper or card. It is sturdy, solid, and does not slide at all.One word of warning: When using this cutter, keep your hand firmly on the black slide part of the cutter more to the left if you are sliding it right, and more to the right side if you are sliding it left. This is so you do not pinch your hand when the "carriage" gets to the stop. Learnt that many years ago, the HARD way.Do not hesitate buying this item or any of the cutters by Rotatrim, you will not regret it.

Well worth every penny, honestly !
This cutter / trimmer is well worth every penny. Yes it is a little pricey, but if your work is worth doing it is worth doing right. This trimmer will do exactly that. It is a very professional trimmer. You will not be disappointed, and I am picky. It cuts effortlessly and makes all cuts look absolutely professional. No bludgeoned, burred, ripped, torn nor frayed edges. You can literally cut a 1000th of an inch off if need be without the sheet shifting, creasing or caving under. I have cut almost two thousand 10 mil. sheets already in just a month or so and it works terrific. I am sure this trimmer could cut twice that thickness without effort.Make sure you evaluate what size trimmer you need. At first, I thought I needed a 24" trimmer to do the size photos I was trimming but after reading some of the reviews saying that you do not need as big a platform as you think you do, I decided to take that advice. And I am glad I really analyzed those comments. The 18" trimmer works great even for my 13" x 17" sheets. The overall length of the 18" trimmer is 24 1/2" with a cutting edge platform of 18 1/2". The short direction is only 12 1/2" wide but that's plenty even with larger sheets. Even at that it does take up some desk space. But regardless of what size you need, you will not go wrong with this trimmer.

Not going back to guillotine trimmers!
I used to help with my father's small business cutting all sorts of paper products when all he had was a guillotine cutter. It was AWFUL to work with. About 20% of the time, the edges would drag down and get cut in a curved manner or would be extremely imprecise--the other problem would be the feathering of the edges instead of a sharp clean cut, leading to a lot of rework/waste.Enter the Rotatrim, a precision beauty. I never thought I'd fall in love with a paper cutter of all things, but after using this for cutting programs, cards, and photos, and getting spectacular results, I can definitely say that this is QUALITY machine. The self-sharpening action that comes with each stroke is an awesome feature as well--AND THE EDGES ARE PERFECTLY STRAIGHT AND SHARP! Another helpful feature is the triangular piece that you use to secure the paper in place so it doesn't wriggle during the cut.If you want to avoid headaches and rework, BUY THIS TRIMMER!
