The Pottery of John Ward

This is a beautiful book, it is interesting, well written, informative and above all the illustrations are off the scale. Most modern books on studio ceramics are well illustrated but the photographs in here are just perfect, the lighting discreet in a way that brings out the textures, shapes and colours so I feel as if I could pick up the pots up from the page. John Ward's life is worth reading about, and i found it particularly intriguing the grass-roots way he built his clientele, not through the posh magazines but by selling his pots directly in shops and building up a band of eager collectors. Lucie Rie did something similar but she was in London while he was in remote Wales.
