Interesting Alkaline Diet Book
Interesting alkaline diet guidelines type of book written by a third party to the referenced diet’s originator, Dr. Sebi. The book lists the overall benefits of the alkaline diet which are huge, so in effect the diet stays away from meats, wheat and other potentially allergy causing foods and intends to change the body chemistry away from the prepared foods, acid biased diets of modern society. The goal being 75% of alkaline to acidic food diet. So the greatest value is looking at how to have enough meals to fill out a complete yearly diet, that are the main presentation of the book. Almost as important are the recommended foods and ingredients in those multitude of recipes. The biggest issue with the diet is the lack of protein in the diet as adults need 50-60 grams a day, every day. Most cannot eat enough beans, nuts, broccoli etc to get this level of protein. Just for reference most meats are 25-30% protein at best so about a 1/3 pound of meat about 152 grams is needed which many meat based diets may or may not eat each day. For non-meat whole ingredients that would mean eating a half to ¾ pound of beans, nuts etc to get there safely that is a lot of chewing. Of course non-meat proteins are missing b12 and some amino acids and that is somewhat addressed in the book requiring supplements.Another set of issues is that some folks may have allergies that limit or prevent completing these recipes and more important from eating large quantities of beans and nuts, increasing the protein deficiency. Many can be allergic to other various ingredients (like mushrooms, onions) that would mean many recipes are incomplete. Additionally, replacement costs for many folk’s diet such as non-wheat pastas are very, very high as wheat is cheap and the specialty pastas are the highest priced. If many ingredients are purchased organic, then this adds to the costs and scarcity of many ingredients. So in general the book is highly informative, but does not resolve getting to an alkaline diet for many folks other than supplementing with pills/powders.

Vegan lifestyle and health promoting recipes
This book is about Dr. Sebi and how he healed himself with a vegan diet. I lists foods you should eat and has a plethora of recipes. As plant-based eater myself, I found this book valuable. The only reason for 4 stars is that some recipes are not very clear, ie: vegan sushi roll ups do not describe what to use for the roll up... I do appreciate that each recipe lists the fat, carb and protein values. Certainly I believe this approach to eating aids in a healthier lifestyle.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“Food For Thought” for Reflux and Sinus Sufferers!
This was an interesting read, and grabbed my attention because excess mucus from diet was something I had never thought of before. Of course, I had heard about gluten free diets due to allergies that caused mucus, but I had never heard of a diet to eliminate mucus unrelated to allergies. As a chronic sinusitis sufferer, this is something that really made me ponder, and it was really interested to read the background and theory on all this, and how mucus can also be responsible for GERD. I’m hopeful that this will help ease my horrible sinusitis, which is pretty constant. The recipes are pretty straightforward and easy — def beginner-friendly. There are a few unusual (hard to find) ingredients, such as sea moss gel and glass noodles made of an unusual grain, but the majority of the recipes will be easy to put together. I think it will be an easy diet to follow, with the help of the recipes in the book. I’m looking forward to trying it out and seeing what happens! If you have bad reflux, this could also be an excellent option for you!.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

You have to be able to crack the code
I picked this book up out of curiosity and if you need to be on a low acid diet, you might find some interesting recipes, but you will need to be able to crack the code for this translation. The recipes list unusual ingredients such as floor cloves and terrain cloves, but if you remember that this is a translation, then you might conclude that you need “ground” cloves. The measurements are in mugs and glasses. If we assume that a mug is a cup, then how much is a glass. Mason jars are also used as measuring amounts and since they come in many sizes, it is hard to say. Also cooking containers such as wedding cake skillet, casserole meal, and green tea kettles are used. But if you are up for a challenge, or just an evening of entertainment, you could try one of the recipes and “cook the onions until they are sensitive.” Many of the recipes actually sound pretty good if you can crack the code.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
