Read the Instructions CAREFULLY
The switch is great. It works happily with a totally non-resistive load of three 1.4-watt LEDs and one 7-watt fluorescent bulb. Setting the timer to operate from dusk to dawn is much more convenient than trying to chase the periods of darkness with hourly settings. That being said, pay careful attention to the installation instructions. It's not that they are difficult to understand. Rather, the layout on the sheets can trick you into thinking you've read the whole thing when, in fact, you've missed the last, non-intuitive step. When was the last time you had to tie together two wires on the remote switch of a two-switch circuit in order to get the combination to work normally? Easy enough to do, and clearly spelled out in the instruction, but easy to miss if you've installed lots of switches and don't read carefully. Trust me; strange results accompany a failure to complete that step.

Perfect solution!
This was exactly what I was looking for. It fulfilled two requirements. I have a home built in 1960’s with switch legs to existing 3 way switches and no way to intercept a neutral wire. This solves that problem and let me replace one 3way switch and jumper the other. The other thing I was looking for was astronomical on but set time off. I use this to control outside lights and didn’t want dusk to dawn, the only option several others offered. It is rather bulky especially for an older home with standard switch boxes. Since I mounted in the garage I used a 1 inch deep wire mold extension ring which allowed plenty of space. I also ditched the supplied really bulky wire nuts and used Scotchlock connectors.Would heartily recommend.

Installation is simple, programming a bit confusing, but a great device nonetheless.
Just purchased three of these to control exterior house fixtures. Installed a pair this weekend and finally figured out the programming... one night's worth of "on at dusk, off at dawn", to confirm we set them correctly. The programming is a bit confusing, as there are multiple 'layers' that must be scrolled through. If using the dusk-to-dawn feature, make sure to set the correct time/date/year/day functions, then the DST/standard time, then you'll have to program WHAT you want the timer to do at either dusk or dawn. (turn something ON or turn it OFF.) The 'dawn' factor appears first, and I got this confused, as this is when I want the controller to turn OFF the lights. 'Dusk' appears later, so the functions kind of program backwards. The instructions are fairly helpful, but didn't appear to be entirely accurate, so I just kept scrolling until I eventually set all the factors. This Intermatic timer is considerably easier to set up than a different brand I previously purchased, Leviton. Returned the Leviton after struggling with it for the better part of a week. The Intermatic took only a day or so of cycles for me to figure out.

Great Looking Timer that Performs Well
This is a great in-wall timer with the Astro Feature. I bought 3 of these about a month ago for various outdoor lights around the house and then purchased a forth one recently. If you like the idea of dawn and dusk for controlling your lights but don't like the timer's pre-programmed Dawn and Dusk time settings, you can adjust the programmed time to suit your tastes. Then when the Astro feature of the timer automatically adjusts for the setting sun and dawn times, it will adjust to this new setting that you changed. Hint: you can actually see what the dawn and dusk times (off and on) will be throughout the year in your timer by changing the date you enter during the set-up. Then you can compare that with the actual astronomical time table (sunrise/sunset) for your geographical area and further adjust if needed. You can google this on-line to find the table. Program instructions that come with the timer leave a little to be desired but you can go to the Intermatic website on-line to get more detailed instructions. The timer itself is pretty large and can be challenging to install in the wall j-box that may already have lots of wiring and wire nuts. Can be a very tight fit. Also the on and off function is accomplished by the internal battery and not AC power. That is why you don't need the "neutral" (white) wire. Just the "hot" wire going to the light. Overall a great timer for what it does at a reasonable price. Five (5) Stars!

Nice update
This was to be a direct replacement for the same Intermatic timer from about 15 years ago. It looks much better since it sits flush with the wall now (doesn't stick out like the old one) and it works just fine.

Good timer but requires a battery since there's no common power connection.
Dawn to dusk by date is a handy feature or vise-versa.
