Does this have the straps to carry like a backpack?

No it doesn’t. It does have straps on the side for sticks. My son loves it though. It rolls easily and depending on how much gear is in it, it’s not bad to lift in and out of the car.

Is there a convenient spot for water bottle?

No. We usually end up carrying the water bottle or putting it in the front pocket, but there is not a specific place to securely hold the water bottle.

Does the bag have wheels?

Yes. Two wheels are on the back of the bag.

Would this fit roller skates [in the designated skates area] for roller derby as well as helmet + knee/elbow pads?

The bag is very accommodating for all sorts of gear. Roller skates will fit in the area designated for ice skates as well as all your pads and helmet. Our 10 year old has all his hockey gear inside as well as bottled water, extra jerseys, stockings and a change of clothes.
