Use a oil filter wrench to take the filter housing apart.
It is hard to take apart but at least they put it on tight for you so there would be no leaks.USE OIL FILTER WRENCH TO TAKE APART!!!!

Grease all o-rings before and on future filter elements
Due to reading other reviews about very hard or impossible disassembly when trying to change filters I decided to pre-grease all o-rings before I installed the unit. Wow... it was Very hard to take apart when brand new before the install. Stick with it. Apply whatever force you need to take it apart. Use plumbers silicone grease on all the o-rings. After I did this and reassembled the filter I took it apart again, as if I were changing the filter element. This time it was easy to take it apart. Re-grease all o-rings when eventually changing the filter element also. Hope this helps. The water quality after flushing for 10 minutes is outstanding. Best water we have ever gotten from any previous filter... and we have had Many others. P.S. Use two 1/2" id by 2" od stainless washers (plus silicone seal where they contact the sink) to sandwich the new faucet on either side of the sink hole. Makes for a Very firm result.

Awful
What a disappointment. Totally agree with No Drama Llama, another reviewer. I came on here to see if I was missing some sort of instructions regarding installation. Nope, they're just poorly-- AWFULLY designed. So much so, that when I'm done with my three filters, I'll just replace the entire unit. Of course, the company will already probably stop selling these by then, so the joke will be on me, afterall. The unit was good; we really liked it. These refill filters are absolutely horrendous. Why should changing out the filter be MORE difficult than the entire installation? Hint: It shouldn't be.

Impossible to install...
The under sink water filter these are for is easy to use and install, however they made a terrible decision when they decided the replacements would not be the filter drum you simply screw in like most replacement filters. Instead they have you trying to pry apart the original assembly and slip this cartridge inside every time you need to change the filter, which for us was three months not six. The filter drum has so far proven very difficult to get apart without damaging it. You can easily unscrew it from the top piece but it takes brute strength and the help of an oil strap wrench to unscrew the filter drum open to replace the cartridge.I can not stress enough how poorly thought out the replacement process is. I do NOT recommend.

These filters are a great buy and they work well
First off to those reviews that are giving these filters a bad reviews have nothing to do with the filters. Your issue is with your filtration system being difficult not the filters.I bought these under my wife's account but doing the review under mine since I bought them and installed them. These filters are what they say they are and they fit our under the sink cold water filtration system perfectly. We went to change the old one with the new one was a bit frustrating figuring on how to get the original cartridge out the filtration system but once I figured it out, it was really easy to install it. I am getting ready to install a new one soon so I'll add pics then to show the difference. I am definitely buying these filters again. Such a great product once you figure out your filtration system and how to change the filters.
