Blast from the past-Only now I'm 6'2" and 280lbs (it's still big enough)
Really pleasantly surprised by this blanket. I grew up with military surplus wool blankets (my family has covered very nearly every branch of the armed forces) so naturally I went for the nostalgic (for me) green. One thing I always remembered about the wool clothing and blankets I had as a kid was the scratchiness of the wool; and I guess because I grew up with it, I associated the texture with happy times. This blanket was actually surprisingly soft for wool, just enough "scratchiness" for me to know its the real thing. The other characteristic of wool that I very clearly remember was its warmth, even when wet. I haven't tried it out to see if it's still warm when wet; but I can attest to its comfort when it's dry. It's the only blanket on my bed, and I sleep with the window open. In my region it's currently averaging 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit at night, and I haven't woken up cold since I got it. I didn't look at the tag for the wool-vs-other composition, but by the feel of it, there's quite a lot of real wool in it.Honestly, I didn't read any reviews before I ordered this, I saw the words "Wool Blanket" and saw a color very close to Olive Drab, and ordered it on impulse. In reading other reviews before posting my own, I saw many references to odor. I will say that it has an odor to it that triggers childhood memories, but I don't know that it's necessarily unpleasant. I'm sleeping quite happily with this blanket, and I think I'm going to order another, so I don't have to go without while it's drying. I haven't washed it yet, but I do remember very well how long it takes a wool blanket to dry in the N/W US during the winter. It's pretty key that you don't put these in the dryer, you'll wind up with little pea-shaped balls of scratchiness all over it; and you'll wear it out faster to boot. The odor people are reporting may have something to do with dye; if that's the case, I can attest to a pleasant "wooly" smell in the green blanket. Not only would I recommend this, I'm buying another. Possibly two more.

Your nose will call you an idiot, and your brain will point and laugh.
Purchased two of these in April of 2013. Brand new they were laden with an overpowering chemical odor. I could reasonably expect that. So I soaked them in white vinegar, as some have suggested, didn't seem to make much difference. Soaked them in baking soda, also no discernable difference. Washed them MANY times until the chemical smell seemed to abate somewhat.Have used these blankets each winter since 2013.. Yesterday brought them out and laundered again for the upcoming cold months. To my amazement, the chemical smell still hadn't diminished in four years. If anything, laundering only seemed to replenish the chemical odor to its original strength. My friends, there is NO getting rid of the chemical smell in these blankets. If you think you can, you're wrong. I believe I could keep them another twenty years and give you the same report. This leaves me wishing I'd spent a lot more money on natural wool blankets that WEREN'T permanently treated with hyper-strength Chinese insecticide. If I had it to do again, I'd look up one of the local sheep farms & see how much for a few yards of real wool, and h3ll I guess find someone on cr4igslist with a spinning wheel and loom. If this experience has taught me anything, it's that such trouble and expense is preferable to living with permanent bug bombs.

Pleased - good value
Really pretty pleased with this item - as other reviewers had mentioned an odor, I washed it twice before using in lukewarm water, dried it at a low setting. I was not at all thrilled with it, when I first opened the package - very harsh & stiff (stinky, too) but I needed a wool blanket, and this was relatively affordable. it came out of the wash very very soft & fluffy (NO SHRINKAGE !! I measured.)- I could detect no odor - the only reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars was the amount of lint - just gobs and gobs, in the machine and the dryer, but I just kept running it thru the no-heat cycle to fluff and de-lint, til the shedding stopped. For the money, I found it a great value, and am warmer at night - really happy with it.

Purple Blanket
This blanket is quite warm, but I would definitely recommend getting a second blanket if you need it for the oncoming winter.I got the impression it was thicker due to reviews, and while it functions well I do not think it is particularly thick. It is about the thickness of my fall coat, and feels of the same as the material(the coat is a wool and polyester blend, so the other 20% of the blanket might be something similar).I purchased the purple: from the pictures it looks like a deep lavender, but in natural light it is much darker. I'd say it is closer to a plum color. This isn't an issue for me as it still goes with my room, but be warned if you were looking for something light.Over all I am pleased with this product, especially for the price.

It's a nice color
I received this product quick whiuch was good. As others have mentioned it has a very heavy chemical smell. I had to wash it 2 times then let it air outside on a line for about another 4 days to get it to a level that could be tolerated for use. I got this for an every night use on my bed. after about 2 weeks it has finally only has a trace smell. Since I purchased this blanket I have found another non amazon source for the same blanket. with shipping it is close to this price but doesn't have quite the same level of chemical smell. This will probably go camping with me as well but I'm still on the look out for an affordable 100% wool blanket for real comfort.
