Q: How strong is the bottom of the pool? Can the base be clawed?

I run a doggy daycare and my client dogs scratch at it all the time without any problems

Q: What is the bottom made of?

A very dense plastic/ rubber. My husband seemed to think it was good quality.

Q: Of course my dog ripped it before i could finish filling it. Is there a patch kit available?

Nothing I could find. I don't know if a patch kit would've even helped with my dog's destruction on the first day she was left alone with it but, I did look prior to purchasing and did not find anything. If it is a rip on maybe only 1-2 panels, possibly some plastic panels/pieces sealed down from the hardware store would work???

Q: could this be used to keep my pond fish in over the winter in my basement?

It would be no different than any other kids pool... although this one is much thicker
