If Amazon is not an authorized dealer what is the impact on the manufacturers warranty? If any...

Amazon has sent me two emails saying that they do not honor the 36 month warranty. Mine failed after less than 2 years. Very disappointing for a $300 battery.

Is this battery good for operating temperature around -15 to 20 Degrees Fahrenheit , and whats the difference between blue , yellow and red tops?

Blue is for marine use. Yellow top is called a "deep cycle" battery and is for high demand use such as vehicles with high wattage sound systems or electrical systems that draw a lot of power like off-road lights, snow plows, etc. The red top is for most vehicles on the road and the one I've had the best luck with. The yellow top, if not cycled and/or charged properly runs a higher risk of shorting out, not common, but possible (I did it to one) but I've never had a problem with the red tops. As for the temperature range, it's not going to be much different than a standard batter. Their advantage is they use a a spiral "cell" as opposed to plates that standard batteries use. In theory, their life cycle should be longer as there is less of a chance for the batter to short out as plates are typically close together where in the Optima, the spiral is in a tube/cell of it's own. i am looking to use in a race car with no charging system, we manually charge between races, would this be better than red top?

My short answer is Yes - the yellow should be better. Deep cycle type batteries do better than regular batteries. They can be run down and then charged back up without consequence, whereas the red is not a deep cycle, so it might not like it as much.Heres my long version. The yellow top has the properties of a deep cycle where it's the better type to use if you have an audio/video system that you sometimes run with the car turned off for a long period of time (and it gets charged back up later when running), so from that perspective, it sounds pretty similar to running it in a race car.But here's where I would be out of my element a bit. It seems to me that it would depend on the type of race and what the power requirements would be. If it was just a drag race where it's starting off charged, and then run for maybe 15 minutes while getting ready for an 11 second run, then I bet either would work well and the determining factor of the winning choice would be weught. And maybe even an entirely different and significantly smaller (lighter) battery altogether might be a better choice. But your question was about yellow or red. I think their weights are pretty similar, so I think you'd get the best performance from the yellow. I believe a deep cycle is made to be more durable and provide sustained power longer (that's the general purpose of a deep cycle from what I remember reading). And they don't have issues being run down and charged back up, so the yellow deep cycle should be better for the guy at a car audio video show, or a race car driver, or i bet even a person that just has a failing alternator, but a short drive to work and a garage and place to park and charge his battery each night.The yellow is a better battery, and I was very pleased with the price I paid for mine too through Amazon.
