Good explanations
However, there is a lot of describing the politics and fraud and misinformation and the bias investigators have to find data to back their conclusions to the exclusion of other data. To him the phenomena is that the ufos phenomena are caused by some form of ultra consciousness that can alter space time and the physical which we are unable to understand.

The best
The author is the only UFO/UAV author I bother to read. The others have, for the most part, consumed the cool aid or are happily mixing up the next batch.

Opinionated
I found the book was mostly full of his opinions. I didn't see much solid evidence to support his positions.

Indispensible information about UFO's
In the 1960's Jacques Vallee learned first hand about many deceptions in the Air Force's Project Blue Book (see his diary from the 60's Forbidden Science Vol. one). Over the years since he has been able to dig down several layers exposing deception of all sorts plaguing the topic of UFO's. If you want the truth about UFO's, you need to be willing (as in so many fields of study) to undertake the difficult task of separating truth from disinformation: lots of folks want to control your thinking (about this topic as well as many others). Vallee wants to help you think honestly about the topic. This book by Vallee helps unravel some of the deception. This book won't provide definite proof of any particular theory, but it does expose areas of disinformation that must be understood if you want something other than illusion. That's why I call this book indispensible even though it doesn't contain ultimate answers. That he doesn't claim to provide proof of a given theory is one of its strengths. He knows what he knows, and what he doesn't.

a must read for UFO belivers
This is really a vary good book where cases are analyzed in depth. I personally found that most intriguing was the abduction of Frank Fontaine, also I found questioning of the Bentwaters case very thought-provoking. Although, I am not buying everything the author proposes (I think the alien abductions is a real phenomena, just too much independent evidence including physical), I think this is an excellent book nevertheless.

A bit of a frustrating read...
Whilst Vallee is an extremely intelligent man and makes many good and useful observations, he leaves the reader wanting some deeper and more complete analysis. The overuse of words like "ridiculous," "fantasy" and "silly" grates after a while. Whilst his criticism of some of the mainstream UFO research and researchers is often valid, his quoting of people like Jenny Randles in his work is of concern, as for example, Randles has tried to cover up elements of certain cases (such as the 1974 Berwyn mountain case - see Richard D Hall's film).Vallee has his own hypothesis about "what UFO's are" but it is not clear exactly what this hypothesis is. Whilst he provides some useful perspective on the Rendlesham case, he too is guilty of ignoring evidence in relation to that case - and others. For example, he states he met Travis Walton, but he does not describe the case in detail and what the most likely explanation is.It also seems Vallee "had it in" for the likes of John Lear and Cooper and rather than trying to sort "the good from the bad," and does not "give credit where credit is due" - particular in the case of Cooper, who predicted in 2001 that something would be blamed on Osama Bin Laden.Vallee fails to adequately connect the UFO cover up into the activities of the Military Industrial Complex (though at several points he implies the talk of aliens etc provides a convenient cover for some of their black programmes). Perhaps I shouldn't be too critical here, as this book was written before the events of 9/11 (which Vallee in later interviews seems reluctant to talk about). However, when we read at the end that he worked on "Department of Defense computer networking projects," perhaps this gives us a clue to where some of his sympathies lie and why he can't speak quite so openly about certain topics. For those wanting a wider context and less selective review of some of the available evidence, please read my book "Acknowledged: A Perspective on the Matters of UFOs, Aliens and Crop Circles" - available free from my website, or on Kindle and in paperback (I quote Vallee twice).

Really good book. Jacques Valle is a scientist who studies the subject with an open mind. His findings are based on evidence found through thorough investigation and reliable sources. If you are looking for a sensationalised story on UFOs then this is not the book for you.

Intellectual paradigm shift
I always found Jacques Vallees' theories quite intriguing in the sense that they take unorthodox yet extremely convincing path of logic. Vallee is not a debunker, he simply believes that while Area 51 and Roswell for instance are perhaps an intelligence mind game, this still does not negate the essence of the UFO phenomenon. UFOs are not necessarily the product of extra-terrestrial intelligence, but rather physical objects from other dimensions. The evidence he presents is water tight. That is not to say it's not open to discussion, but gives you a different way to look at Ufology.

Fascinating.
Simply the best I've ever read though Jacques Vallee's honesty may upset some with his dry Gallic humour, I found him very funny at times. A real Scientist/Thinker. What else can I say, just read the other reviews.
