The Girl With No Soul

Immersive and compelling
I'm not at all the target audience for this YA book, but I absolutely loved it. I was fully invested in Iris and Evander and their relationship as well as Iris' quest for the missing pieces of her soul. The world building is exquisite, and I was as invested in this world as I was in Bardo's Grishaverse. The book doesn't shy away from the brutality of dictatorship and prejudice either, but it is entirely appropriate for the age of potential readers. All in all, a book that was beautiful both inside and out.

Full of heart and vibrancy
I don’t often read YA fiction, but this one seemed so unique and different that I couldn’t resist. From the opening chapter, you are drawn into a dystopian world of dictatorship and cruelty and the life of the mysterious heroine Iris becomes impossible to put down. I read this over a couple of days and was totally drawn into the soul of the character and her journey to rediscover herself and awaken memories that could save everyone. At its heart is a love story so beautifully crafted, that you are rooting for them at every step. I full recommended for older teens (13+) and adults alike.

A lush and atmospheric fantasy
Intiguing from start to finish! I loved the atmosphere of oppressiveness the Order has over the entire city and the concept of the souls split into aspects. The relationship between characters was fun and had me rooting for our two main leads all the way. I hope that there will be more because I'm not quite ready to leave this world yet!

Excellent
Whilst I was very aware that this was a Ya book I have to say I really enjoyed it. The characters of Iris and Evander were amazing and endearing and I found myself rooting for them throughout the book. Well written and a great storyline. This author has a great future ahead of her and I look forward to seeing more of her books

Fantastic book for YA and adults alike.
Absolutely fantastic read - unputdownable. The world is beautifully written, captivating the reader from page 1. A beautiful story, whilst written for a YA reader, resonates with adults too. It really is a book in which you get lost in the world created by the author (the author with no soul?) Cannot wait for the next book and the TV show - HBO needs to pick this up.

Confusing and dull
I did not see the appeal. I found the story lacking in terms of chemistry between the main couple. After page 300 and something it's when we start to see the romance really developing and for me it was already too late. I found the story confusing and dull. It was a little boring for me and it took me a long time to finish the book. Besides, i could not get into Evander/Olliver's character, i found him arrogant and an uninteresting character and from there, i could not feel anything between him and the main female character.

A great read
Owen has crafted a story that will draw readers in, centred around an idea that captures the imagination, with a protagonist who goes on a genuine journey of self discovery. Great stuff!
