Divine Grace is essential for self-growth and self-surrender
Swami Ranganathananda was a great monk of the Ramakrishna Order. In "Divine Grace" he expounds upon the essential nature of Divine Grace by invoking the teachings of the saints and sages of the world including various Hindu traditions, Sufis, Christianity, and Islam. Swamiji's main point is that it is by Divine Grace that we grow from weakness to manliness, and from manliness to Godliness. When we reach the peak of spiritual growth we deeply understand the truth that it is Divine Grace which has carried us all the way. This state of total awareness of the operation of Divine Grace is called "Sharanagati" or "self-surrender" in the Hindu spiritual traditions. Such a state is considered to be the highest state of spiritual growth where the puny self, ego, merges in the Universal Self.
