Outstanding Atomic Solar Powered Watch that addresses all Wave Ceptor Issues.
Probably the best atomic solar powered watch on the market without breaking the bank. I am replacing my second wave ceptor that I have owned for several years with no issues - except for the plastic part in the band. This is the part that ruined one watch and is now about to ruin a second - though not bad for all the years I have owned these and the abuse I put them through. This watch is all steel. Includes an additional dial at the 9 o’clock position that clearly shows what mode it is in, whether it is receiving the signal, and the battery charging level. Adds an additional digital screen to make the digital info easier to read (as opposed to cramming everything into one small screen). Basically fixes all the shortcomings of the wave ceptor. You can also tell that the watch face, hands, and bezel are of a higher quality. Overall a beautiful, useable, durable watch. I say durable simply due to the lack of plastic - time will tell if the watch glass resists scratching but I’m pretty active and the wave ceptors never had a problem so I am assuming no degradation here. The packaging was fine though the instructions were in japanese (though as others have noted english instructions are on line). Watch came at about 75% charge so other than my need to remove some links it was ready to go right out of the box. I did note that with DST on auto, it did not provide the correct time. Had to manually set it to the right DST setting. But all in all I am extremely happy with this watch.***Update***Added a picture showing this watch (on the right, closest to my hand), with my old wave ceptor on the left. Note the old watch has that plastic part in the band (which has been the part that fails, rendering watch useless) that is about to fail. Not so with this new watch which is all steel, baby! I took the watch to a local jeweler to remove a few links. While there i asked if they had any solar-powered atomic watches - only a few big name-brand watches. Starting at $500 and ugly as sign with big knobs sticking out and watch face so small you need a magnifying glass to read it. Casio all the way!

Self-setting, highly accurate solar watch
After 36 years, my Seiko H557-5179 Sports 100 finally failed, and I began looking for a new watch. I spent weeks researching different models and features with an upper limit of about $150 in mind. Eventually I chanced on this watch. I knew watches could be solar powered, and I knew about the atomic clock time signal broadcast from Colorado, but I didn’t know that any watches in my price range had that feature. The Casio watches which pick up the atomic clock signal from Fort Collins are called Wave Ceptor, but I believe not all are available in the USA or not all available through AMAZON. This LINEAGE model is the first I found on AMAZON, and I liked it quite a lot, so I purchased it. Note that I have seen the prime purchase price float even within one week. With prime, this watch arrived in four days, set to Tokyo time. The watch arrived with written instructions in Japanese, so you absolutely must download the PDF instructions in English (AMAZON rejected my URL link for this, so you’ll have to search for it, but it is also it can be found in some of the answered questions and other reviews). Also, my wrist is about 7.5 inches, and this required removing three links so that it fit properly. While I was trying to repair my Seiko, I had earlier purchased the HAOBAIMEI 168 PCS Watch Repair Kit on AMAZON. This kit was helpful for removing links of this Casio and reassembling the wrist bracelet. In this kit, you will use the watch band holder, the dual head hammer (use the white nylon side for impact), and one of the three metal spring bar pins. This repair kit is currently sold on AMAZON, and one of the pictures shows exactly how to use these tools to remove the link pins. There is another review on this which warns you that in addition to the pins, there is a tiny cylinder which also comes out. This tiny cylinder must be placed back into the link to close the bracelet. For each link you remove, you will also remove a pin and one of these cylinders. I put all three spare links/pins/cylinders into a small Ziploc I use for my medicines, just in case the I need to add one back in.My watch arrived set to Tokyo time, but once I followed the instructions to set it to my time zone, the watch automatically reset the hands and digital display to my local time. I am 650 miles south of Fort Collins, so I tried a manual read of the time signal at about 7PM MST, and it had no difficulty making the connection, and calibrating my watch. Since then, I let the watch do its auto read of the signal, and at midnight, every night, it has executed a new read and new calibration. Note that while the instructions suggest placing on a window sill to enhance reception, I always have kept the watch on a lamp table in our living room, and the signal has to penetrate two walls, and so far, no problem, though keep in mind that 650 miles is relatively close. When not calibrated, I believe the watch is accurate to 15 seconds in a month (you can find a Wikipedia article on this for Casio Wave Ceptor watches), but with daily calibration, I believe it is accurate to better than 0.5 seconds. It is really nice to have a time piece I can rely on being that accurate without ever having to set it!Note that the ability to calibrate to the atomic clock in Fort Collins depends on distance. If you are far away, it may require multiple attempts at calibration or might not calibrate every night (or, if too far, perhaps not at all?). The instruction manual shows the maps for the calibration signals in the USA and around the world, so you’ll have to judge where you live and whether there might be a problem. I believe reviewers have commented that from the east coast of the USA, calibration does not occur every night. The watch doesn’t need nightly calibration (though it will be less accurate than 0.5 sec per day), and if you are far from any radio signal, you can independently manually set the watch. The watch will automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time, or, you can turn off this feature. It also has chronograph, countdown, and alarm features, but as another reviewer commented, the alarm sound is faint. The hands and hour points are phosphorescent luminous. The watch has a good solid feel. It has a bigger face than my old Seiko which was becoming difficult to see, but, as you can tell from the age of my Seiko, I am not young, and have no difficulty reading the digital display of this watch with my standard reading glasses. The watch arrived with the battery charge at M (medium). Based on its last calibration signal in Japan, I presume it had been in its box in the dark for at least two weeks before arriving. After a few long exposures to bright sunlight, the battery setting went to H (high) and has not dropped since then as long as I keep the watch exposed to light throughout the day.Are there any negative issues I have encountered? Not yet. However, I have to say you must carefully peruse the manual to properly set it for your time and understand its features, and you need the proper tools to remove links in the bracelet. Also, I haven’t traveled yet with this watch, so I really don’t know how well it calibrates with distance from a transmitter, or, using any of the other six time signal transmitters around the world that it is set to receive.

Rugged analog/digital solar atomic watch.
Straight forward, casual, functional and attractive analog/digital solar atomic watch from Cascio. Nice metal band and case with a tough crystal covered face. I've worn this watch at work and the crystal has faced some abuse, but remains scratch free.
