The temperature won't lower and keeps rising when the cool on setting is on. How can this be fixed?

I had a coolent issue and bought a new thermostat,also needed a coolant charge. That returned the set coolent temp to where I had it set. You may have that issue or it could be something else entirely with your central air inside or outside unit. You need to call a air conditioner repair person.

How many pins on the back?

all of them. the one i got from hd was missing the pin for the ac. suggest buying the one from amazon.
