~Happy Cat~
To be honest....I thought I'd be buying an almost $100 "piece of mind" to make myself feel better, thinking our finicky cat would laugh at us for even wasting our money yet time to put together a "cat house".Well...it took less than 5 minutes to build. Directions were very easy to follow, came with all hardware needed. We tested the heating pad it like the instructions advised with the weight of the drill used to put it together and within 5 minutes you could feel the heating pad warm right up. The plastic door flaps were put on with the enclosed Velcro strips and our little house was ready to go!Finding the perfect spot outside was easy, under the awning by the front entrance of our home. We did need to use an extension cord to reach our outdoor power source as the one that came with the heating pad was only about 6 feet in length. Now came the real test....when trying to introduce our finicky feline to this masterpiece I made the mistake of trying to shove him into it (I don't recommend that by any means) so he absolutely hated it right off the bat. The husband was right. Darn it!!So, I spent a few hours of trying to coax him with treats and convince him this little cat house was just wonderful. He hissed at me of course and ran off. Perfect, I will never be forgiven!!!! Now I have a cat house, an angry cat, and a laughing husband.Next morning after it drops down to 30 degrees.....I look over and that sweet little hissing cat is all nuzzled up and asleep in his cat house. Success!!! We both win (and I don't have to be teased for buying a cat house that the cat refuses to use)!!!Thank you Amazon!

Brutal cold in Iowa City, -16 F this morning 1/2/2017 and our feral cat is IN the house or eating the heated food we put out!!!
Have a feral cat that has been hanging around for a few years. She looked thin and Iowa winters can be brutal, so bought the house. SHE LOVES IT!!! The house went together easily and we left it on lower deck next to the house without the doors. After 2 days of sniffing around she was sleeping in it. When the weather turned colder, I calked all the seams, put some *tiny scraps* tiny tiny of ancient cashmere sweater inside (not advised by heading pad seller), put left over hardwood flooring planks underneath, put on the plastic doors and put it flush with the house (under a porch, on a lower deck). Our feral cat disappeared for a few days after the improvements. Suddenly, on a rainy cold night POOF she was there, sound asleep inside. She has gained weight and looks chubby warm..... Next up heated food bowls. I suspect she will move inside eventually, she is less feral now, licks my hand as I leave out food, and is in her heated little house every am and pm and seems to be sleeping deeply as she does not immediately FLY out of her house when I open our slider door to the deck.

Cats approved and gave 5 stars immediately!
My feral cats took to these immediately, so I love it too, with a few caveats. I have also used the K&H Outdoor Kitty House AND the K&H A-frame, and they are good products too. The Birchwood Manor is smaller that the Kitty House, but I prefer it because the hard wood surfaces are more cleanable, important for feral cats. Instead of using the heating pad (no electricity where the houses are used) I insulated the Birchwood units with 1/2 inch board insulation. It was a pain to measure and figure out how to cut the insulation board to to the right sizes, but the house itself went together easily with a screwdriver and is very sturdy. The plywood is much nicer than expected. I thought I would have to paint these, but the plywood has a nice finish, although I doubt it is weatherproof. The size might fit two smallish cats who really love to cuddle, but most cats will require a Manor of their own. In comparison, the K&H A-frame easily fits two big cats, and the Outdoor Kitty House might fit two medium cats.A couple suggestions for K&H-- 1) why not make a larger size that could fit 2 cats? Because cats really would prefer to be together for warmth and safety. 2) Would be wonderful if you included patterns or measurements for adding insulation board 3) An accessory selection would be great-- like a really waterproof roof with overhand (to add to this kit), or perhaps pre-cut insulation boards. and no heating pad for areas without electical outlets.I have never been disappointed in a K&H product!

Great peace of mind for your outdoor cat!
We purchased the heated unit, put it together in a snap! Decided to use a bit of liquid nails as we assembled it for extra strength. Also had some old shingles laying around so we threw them on the roof to make it look cute and add extra waterproofing to the house. It will be on our porch under the eaves. Our outdoor somewhat half feral cat hopped in while we were still putting it together. He loves it! Plugged the heating pad in and stuck my hand in there and felt after he had been laying on it for a while and he was nice and cozy in there!

Burned off my cat’s hair
Well, my cat certainly seemed to like this house in the winter, but now that it’s warmed up and he’s outside more, we noticed that all the hair on his stomach is burned off from the heating pad. I thought the pad was supposed to be low enough voltage not to do that, but that wasn’t our experience. I unplugged it and now he is just using the house and the pad as a cushion. I feel really bad for the cat.

Needed some tweaking for winter weather.
This could be better designed . It needs an overhang at the openings to keep wind, rain, and snow out. Or the openings could be redesigned to also help especially since the heating pad is only covering half the floor . We closed the opening at heated end and insulated the entire enclosure which really helped with -30C wind chill & blowing snow.

Nice cat house but use some additional fixes
Nice car house should be longer. They started to rot after winter season with rain fall, suspect that the paint/varnish they put on it was very lighten thin coated on barely protecting wood and cut ends. You should repaint and seal all the wood first to weather proof it better. The house is a little short and I think about 6-12 inches would make in right. Also the roof doesn’t over hang the entrances far enough it’s to short for all weather. Need to extend both side out 6-12inches to create a porch or overhang. It’s also sits to close the the ground Exposing to the elements easily but parts ok cause I have sitting on top of a couple of concrete sinder blocksWhich help protect it from environment and ground cold better as well as bugs, critters. In addition to the pressure sensitive heated blanket for the winter cold month I also adding a continuous forced air heating system. Cat total loves especially when temps went to -22C.

A good cat house
We love this cat house, the reason I put 4 stars is because the doors doesn’t hold well as it is only in place with a stick on velcro
