Some practical Glasser advice.
I read the other reviews on this book with interest. As a secondary school teacher, and a student of Choice Theory I found the practical aspects of this book really useful.I do feel that this book needs to be read in conjunction with other Glasser texts before use, as you really need to understand the premises of Choice Theory to understand where you're leading the students, and successfully create the kind of environment CT espouses. My recommendation would be to read this alongside Glasser's 'Every Student can Succeed' at very least, and of course his major text 'Choice Theory - A new psychology of personal freedom'.My experience is that your classroom doesn't become the fairytale class that is described in the books overnight. Indeed we are all dealing with limitations/challenges to that success (be it time, Departmental regulations re: processes etc) however, there is no doubt that your relationships with students, and their families are taken to another level, and this leads to many positives for all concerned.

Decent information and easy read.
Got this book for a college course. The information is more interesting than I was expecting and it is easy to follow and read. The only reason why I am giving it a four is because I don't 100% agree with all the ideas, but the ideas are useful and won't hurt you.

I have them all
Glasser is a good man and a good therapist - his ideas are creative and good but also good in a Utopian Environment - which I do not have - you pick and choose and hope that some of his ideas are going to work in your classroom

a new way to teach that seems like the old way with a different vocabulary
There are fads in education; a new way to teach that seems like the old way with a different vocabulary. (I think it's because so many people are trying to cash in on their doctoral thesis.) This has ideas that I think I can use long term.

Glasser Rocks!
William Glasser is the best. I read this along with The Quality School. I have read and studied other books by Glasser and have found his work very insightful. Even his work from 1969 is very appropriate for today.

Another Anti-Science Quack
Glasser was a borderline crackpot. His "choice theory" has no evidential basis and it's application is largely impractical; which fits right in with the nonsense modern education pushes (e.g.- "multiple intelligences/learning styles). How can an educator make an environment for a dozen plus students that is acceptable to all?
