Scotty #405-BK Offshore Orca Rod Holder Kit w/ #459 Extension

I bought this to try on my kayak after seeing it used on a kayak in a video taken in Alaska. I found it to be good for larger reels, but too heavy weight for my kayak application fishing offshore in South Florida. One of the issues was functionality, after launching from a beach, sand is a larger impedance than with other styles of holders. I use and love the Scotty power lock rod holders, over all the competition. The power locks are sometimes hard to get stock rods in and out of, but if you have custom made gear, they are the best.

Love these for trout, halibut, salmon, kokanee, or anything else. Two of my fishing buddies have Folbe rod holders and I went for these cause I have other Scotty mounts and holders and i wanted the flexibility to be able to switch around what i’m using and where. The trick to releasing/opening these is to pull up on the FRONT and only front section until it opens up. The only negative is that Scotty mounts do not have a spring on their nut that attaches to the mount “peg” and I lost one before i even used it because i had them mounted as i drove 100 miles down the freeway. All Scotty mounts are made with no spring... Cannon rod holders have a spring that acts like a locknut. I use these rod holders almost exclusively now... love em

Missing hardware to put it together. NOT HAPPY!!!

I’ve been using Scotty Power Lock rod holders for atleast 10 years but switched to the Orca when my low profile reels wouldn’t sit correctly in them. These Orca’s are excellent and work great. They are difficult to use at first but quickly break-in and work great. I’m very happy with these and highly recommend them over the Folbe style similar to these.

This item does not include the mounting post or a second thumb screw. These will need to be purchased separately. Pictures are deceiving.

Great rod holder. I don't have to worry about the rod getting pulled out

The picture depicts the rod holder extension with two threaded knobs for securing the holder to a base. The package only included a single knob which is a bit misleading when you are trying to figure out what’s needed. Be sure to read the description closely and don’t rely on the picture. Overall though I like this rod holder.

We love these rod holders, they are easy to use especially for short people that usually need help to get the fishing rod. I wish we had gotten years ago.
