Excellent SAD lamp, not a 100% desk lamp replacement.
I bought this as I frequently work late evening and night shifts at my desk and wanted some "daylight".Overall I'm quite impressed. The lamp is very bright as would be expected of such a device. The lamp stem is adjustable in two axes so it's possible to point the lamp (within reason) at whatever you need it to illiuminate. The lamp body is plastic but has a high quality finish and is very easy to clean with a duster or wiped down with a damp cloth. There are however a couple of down sides to this lamp. Firstly, even with the diffuser fitted the light is highly directional. If you currently use a more conventional desk lamp with a bulb or typical bulb-replacement LED then be prepared for this lamp to be much more directional. Not sure this would be capable of 1-for-1 replacing any sort of desk lamp for that reason. To be clear it works as a desk lamp and works well, but the light is much more directional than conventional desk lights. The second and most significant down side is the switch. Or lack of a switch to be precise. The lamp uses a touch control sensor to turn on and off and also to adjust the lamp brightness. On mine the sensor works but is incredibly fussy. Sometimes it refuses to acknowledge a press. Sometimes it needs to be left for a few seconds between presses in order to change the brightness setting. It's also incredibly fussy about where on the lamp body I have to press. Obviously I didn't expect the touch sensor to work everywhere but the acceptable area is *tiny*. Frankly operating the touch control is an exercise in frustration rather than being the seamless experience it should be. At this price it's barely acceptable and I can't believe that this sensor function actually passed product design testing. I'm far from the only one to have had sensor issues - read the other reviews. All in all would I recommend this? Yes, it does exactly what it claims to do in terms of offering a really nice daylight experience during darker hours. It does however need a quality control review by Lumie.

The tap to brighten thing is really annoying!
On the whole this is a great lamp. I haven't seen anything else combining desk lamp and SAD lamp functions. However, the tap to switch on/brighten mechanism is incredibly annoying. I find I only tend to use it on its brightest setting. This means hitting it repeatedly with short pauses between the hits in order to get it to the light level I want. More than once I have misjudged a tap (or thump - it can be a bit insensitive) and it has switched off instead. I'd be a lot happier if there was a version with an on/off switch. However, it is still a good lamp, once you get past that annoyance.

Seems to make a massive difference to mood - but the switch is not intuitive
Some people, including us, suffer from SAD (seasonally affected disorder - most obviously tiredness and sadness which may be combined with anxiety) when indoors too much and/or in winter months when days are shorter. We've tried to "pull ourselves together" and it hasn't worked, so we decided to spend some serious money on a solution that is used by the British Swimming Team!It appears to work! My wife has been more lively, brighter, and happier since using this. She has it on the settee next to her for 2 - 3 hours per day. The light is excellent for crafts (her eyes are very sensitive to the wrong sort of light and she had to give up sewing a few years ago due to failing eyesight) so this has been a godsend in letting her do the things she wants to do. She sleeps better and stays awake during the day more. I'd say it's excellent.EXCEPTThe switch is about as loony as they come. The light responds to taps on the base, in and around the area where the Lumie logo is. We haven't yet worked it out, but it appears that it's one tap for slightly brighter, until it gets fully bright in which case one tap turns it off. Two taps are ignored, so you can't turn it on or off quickly. You'd think with the work they put into the light itself, they would have put less effort into designing the most ridiculous switch. And no, there are no instructions with the lamp or online about how the switch is supposed to work.

Nice light for nearly 2 months
I looked for a light that would double up as a desk lamp even if the SAD part didn't work ...as l thought it would good to check out if it will work for me as l was having problems getting up in the morning. Other reviewers had this light working for 5 years, l only managed just less than 2 months before it started to switch itself off for no reason leaving me in the darkness. I made sure l had no other electrical cables near the touch button but it still did it. I was lucky to get this on a Black Friday deal so l was still able to return it. Thanks to Amazon for this. I did like the size, the design (stayed up), the colour of the white light. But for the price of the light, l expected it to last a bit longer. Also the SAD part didn't work on me. It didn't help with me in that department. I'm now trying an app on my tablet to try help me get up.

Bright light
I bought this to improve my home work desk as I was finding it too dark and getting low on energy sitting at a laptop/screen. So far, a few days in, it seems to work really well. Definitely bright and throws a bigger area of light than standard LED desk lamps. I don't find the touch sensor too tricky, it just needs a positive tap to change light setting. One star removed because as other reviewers have noted, it does emit a slight high pitched whine when on anything but the brightness setting. I have tinnitus so it doesn't bother me that much (😆) and I tend to have it on brightest setting anyway which is quiet but I can understand that it might be annoying for some users. Happy with my purchase and using it as described.
