Japanese sweet potato chips
I make artisan potato chips. These are baked Japanese sweet potato chips with sesame oil and this seasoning, sea salt. Delicious! Making for a catering event.

Good stuff!
Good stuff, very tasty. Not too spicy, quite mild… even my 8 yr old can handle it. I don’t cook with Shichimi Togarashi, but I always top my avocado toast and cream cheese bagels/English muffins with it. It’s the only spice blend I use on a regular basis. The tiny flip-top jar looks nice on my cutting board and is a convenient size.

Great seasoning mix
This stuff is delicious. I love it on omelets and donburi. I've used it to make a soy sauce marinade for some beef, and that was also delicious. I've also been putting it on pizza instead of crushed red pepper, and it's absolutely amazing. It's not overly spicy, but it has a nice kick, and the Sichuan peppercorns add a nice bit of tingle. My husband does not like overly "fishy" toppings (like furikake or bonito), but the amount of seaweed in this mix does not bother him.

What is Shichimi Togarashi as nd how to use.in it your.cookin
I was just recently introducedto this product through Pinterest. I was looking for Asian dishes and notices had Shichmi Togarashi in the list of ingredients. I order some.from AmazonBeause I wanted to be true to the dishes I planned on making. This spice blend contains chili peppers, sesame seeds, dehydrated orange, poppy seeds, ginger and seaweed. It is free tree nuts, peanuts,.wheat, shellfish, eggs, milk, fish & soy. I.opened the packet and took a whiff. The aroma burned my nose. I next wet my finger and collected a little of the spice, which I tasted. Very.hot/ spicy. Since chili peppers.head the ingredient list, I was a little surprised by the pungency and heat. I.have to admit that I have not cooked with yet. I will remember that when I do, I will be careful as to how.I add. Bon Appite'.

Hot pepper overpowers other flavors
I purchased this to make Alton Brown's "reloaded" chicken soup recipe. This is my first time using or tasting this particular spice mix.I found that the product seems to be mostly red pepper. This over powers all the other flavors. I use about 1/4 of the amount called for in the recipe and the soup came out far too spicy for my family's taste.I started to wonder if if was the recipe, or if it was this particular product's fault. I saw some other reviews complaining that the "Burma Spice" version was "mostly red pepper"...So I ordered another type of Shichimi Togarashi from Amazon. While this other product has heat to it, it seems far more balanced. The "Burma Spice" Togarashi is darker in color, mostly red/dark red grains, and whole sesame seeds. The other brand has more uniform grains, fewer whole seeds, and green spices not really present in the "Burma Spice" variety.I'd return this if I could, but its open now. Still unclear which is "right" but I likely won't be using the "Burma Spice" Togarashi again.

Dirt after taste think again before buying
I am a diehard fan of this spice and have been using it for my whole life so I know what shichimi is. The ingredients looked correct for the US so I thought why not and give it a try. Different manufacturer so most likely different hint of flavors. I wanted to be adventurous but it backfired. As you read the other reviews about this product, some people are complaining about a “dirt” flavor. I thought there is no way that’s possible but I was wrong. You know you’re not supposed to taste dirt if you’re familiar with this spice. Every time I taste dirt, the reviews pop up in my head haunting me throughout my meal. I should have listened to them. The 4-5 star reviewers clearly don’t know what this spice is supposed to taste like. Maybe I had a bad batch but it I don’t want to taste dirt with my meal. A little nitpicking but the red peppers pieces are kind of big, needs a little more grinding. And too many black sesame seeds. Get the ratio right. Better to stay safe by sticking with the generic manufacturer for this spice.
