Dark, depressing and rather uninspired reading......
I purchased this book after hearing a vlogger rave about it. While I'm enjoying some of the writing the photograph and photos are very dark, depressing and underwhelming. When I think of "Modern Vintage Style" I don't think of dark spaces with reproduction furniture and bad lighting. I think of bright spaces, eclectic, edgy and fun. This book isn't that. You won't see vibrant pops of color or cheerful photos. This book is just plain dark and feels old and out of touch. I read that the book was put together by a designer but none of the rooms felt like they had been edited or looked over. Some photos were like a bad first apartment. Overall I don't like the book and it will get put in my gift cabinet or sent off to a new home. Disappointing.

Much Better Than 'Flea Market Style'
What a difference from the author's previous book, Flea Market Style, which I had nothing positive to say about (which is rare). I really enjoyed reading Modern Vintage Style. I think perhaps the layout of this book (dividing into two parts - Inspiration and Style) has a great deal to do with that. Instead of just showing images with little to no details as the previous book had done, this book provides details on the owner and their inspiration or what they were trying to achieve. Each section begins with an overview (i.e. Part I is furniture, lighting, textiles, decorating, collections & display vs Part II which is cook & eat, live, sleep, bathe) and is then followed by examples with detailed information that relates back to the text. This is a book that I can see myself returning to in the future.

Better Than Expected
Having loved her previous books 'Style on a Budget' and 'Flea Market Style', I wondered whether Emily Chalmers's latest book would be up to their excellent standard. I was not disappointed. The best thing for me was that it doesn't just contain the same old images that we've seen in various books and magazine articles. It is fresh and up to date. All the spaces are carefully edited and beautifully photographed. There are dozens of ideas to apply to one's own home. Absolutely loved it!!

Great book
Love this book. Got two, one for me and one for gift. Both used in very good condition.

More shabby "chic" than cool
My bad -- I assumed "vintage" meant what it means to me when it can mean nearly anything. There was exactly one cool retro 50s type vintage place. The rest I would expect in a shabby chic book -- not my interest. Bummer.

So FUN
I like the simplicity of the ideas within this book. Just love the suggestions, the colorful pictures. It is a fun book.

It wasn't what I hoped it would be...
I like this Author and thought it would be an excellent book. I am disappointedand was hoping it would be a better book on modern vintage style.I would not order anymore books like this without seeing it in person. It will endup being a gift for a friend who loves this style.

Superbe !
