Q: Does this product meet the safety guidelines for food grade or food safe manufacturing and packaging in the US? I don't see it anywhere on this page.

The silica gel desiccant is not FDA Approved, but it is toxic free and can also be used for food.

Q: The packets I got have clear plastic instead of paper exteriors. Can the silica gel work through plastic?

I reordered this product and instead of the paper packets I received plastic packets. I did some research and it looks like the plastic is fine. It supposedly absorbs moisture through extreme micro holes in the plastic but won't let water in. I also read that the little orange gel beads included in each packet will turn green to indicate when they have become saturated.

Q: How do you recharge these in the oven or microwave?

It says on the information in the Amazon information: “Reactivated by exposing in the sun for 3 hours or put in a microwave oven and heat to 80-100 ℃, microwave at DEFROST with several mins, oven temp setting < 250°F, recharge as instruction, take out every 5 minutes to observe the color.”
