EVI Portable Charger V5 with Smart Screen

With a Lvl 1 charger, I bought this to provide flexibility for charging my PHEV (Ford C-MAX Energi) when I had access to a 220 volt (and if I upgraded at home) and to enable just keeping a cable in the car for charging when a plug is available (as opposed to a charging station). This ended up being my preferred charger and we used it happily for over a year with it kept outside (as EVI told me it could).About 15-16 months after purchase, woke up in the morning with a dead car and, after getting it jumped and running, a dead cable. Just didn't work. Sigh ... put it aside with frustration for a little while ... and sent EVI an email a little while later: "My EVI Portable Charger V5 died roughly 15 months after purchase. I have no idea why it stopped working. Do you have any policy of support past the 12-month period?" The response, almost immediately: "We apologize for this inconvenience and are more willing to resolve this issue. Per your question, though your unit’s warranty has expired, EVI will send you a replacement unit upon the return of your current charger. "Sent them the charger and two days after taking it to the Post Office, they've received the broken unit and had a replacement en route my home.Simply put, legally and even ethically, they did not have to replace the unit. EVI could have been 'nice' and offered a discount on a replacement. They could have ... Instead, they stepped up well beyond their legal requirement and made a client who thought their basic technology good to a client who views their basic business ethics and customer support tremendous.And, it isn't just that issue ... for example, when buying the charger, I had some questions -- rapidly, cogently responded to by EVI staff.When (if) I need EV charging related equipment in the future or friends ask me for the same, the first place I'll look to is EVI.

I've used the cord for a few weeks now so I could get a good feel for how it works. It runs off of 120 V or 240 V, and can be set for 10 amps or 16 amps (with a weird shaking of the box). Thus you can go from 120 V * 10 Amps = 1200 watts up to 240 V * 16 Amps = 3800 watts. Since I plan to charge in different locations, I didn't want a full 7200 watt charge station mounted to the wall. This cord allows me to charge at a friend's house (1200 W) or home off of a compressor outlet (240 V * 10 A = 2400 watt). The flexibility is great. It comes with adapter cords for 120V, 240V 30A (same as 240V 50A). I made an adapter for my 240V (20 A) compressor outlet. The box also has a display which gives you approximate voltage, current set, actual current being consumed and KWH consumed. That is just neat to look at. Charge time at 2400 W or 3800 W is much faster than the factory cable and does not involve adding a major electrical load to outlets or circuit boxes. I'm totally satisfied, for the price this is exactly what I was looking for. I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf I use for daily commuting.

Way tooooooo expensive but it does its job properly. I charge my Leaf in about 3-4 hours.

Works great. I track all the power used to charge up the car using the KWH readout before unplugging the car.

finally a smart compact charger, multiple adapters, nice display to track consumption and all charging parameters.I had 5 years experience with EV and I glad Bosch mismanaged the jnstallation of the charger when I got my bmw, EVI was a fraction of the price with better features.

easy to use does the job

Love my new charger. Used to take 8+ hours to charge my Gen1 Volt with the OEM charger but this one does it in under 3 hours!
