The Amazing World of Video Game Development

Nice little book, but buy the hardbound version
This book is intended for children. It's not intended to turn them into video game developers, any more than a book about the space program would make them into astronauts. The goal of the book is well stated on the back cover: "This book takes you behind the scenes of video game development." From that perspective, I found it helpful for anyone, young or old, who wants a simple introduction to the inner working of video game development. The book begins with a basic description of the development team members and their roles. It then describes, in simple terms, the stages of the development process. The book is only 26 pages long. I've scanned other books that are intended for professionals, and they typically break down the roles of team members into further categories, but they would all fit comfortably within the broader categories discussed in this book. Marketing is not discussed in this book, but that's not surprising in a book aimed at children. For someone like me who has no idea of what goes into video development, this was a quick, enjoyable and informative read. I'm currently helping some kids create a simple video game, and this book provided me with a simple way to explain how professionals develop games.I must recommend, however, that you buy the hardbound version, not the Kindle version. I initially purchased the Kindle version. The text is nearly unreadable in the digital version. It's as if someone photocopied the book, made further copies by photocopying several photocopies, and then printed the final version on a copier with low toner. To make matters worse, page flipping is not enabled. I suspect that the author had no input into how the Kindle version was produced. I'm actually shocked that Amazon would allow Kindle books to be produced in this fashion. Fortunately, I was able to get a refund, and then purchase the hardbound version.

Super Interesting
I have heard so much about coding that I didn't realize the amount of people and planning it takes to develop a video game. This book goes through the different roles and planning phases from an idea to the release. Great book for little gamers.
