Pregnancy Tea - If you are in your first trimester of pregnancy (or, for us unlucky ones - this might be at any point during your pregnancy) you might be experiencing a bit of morning sickness - or maybe "all the time" sickness, even. As you probably know, there are not many things you can take while pregnant to relieve any of your discomforts, but luckily there is one thing for nausea and upset stomachs that works great and is completely safe while pregnant - ginger! Ginger is a tried-and-true remedy for nausea as it contains a molecule called zingerone that actually binds to neural receptors and sends signals that confuse your brain (as if pregnancy brain wasn't enough, now we can confuse ourselves with ginger too!). There is a chemical in ginger called capsaicin, which is the same chemical that makes peppers hot - because of the zingerone signals, your brain cannot process the heat and the nausea at the same time so bam, away goes the nausea. Now, not everyone enjoys the taste of ginger - and especially when pregnant our senses and tastes certainly change. The Keep it Down ;) blend also has a little spearmint (also a remedy for nausea) as well as lemon to help create a balanced taste that is as refreshing to drink as it is beneficial. Plus, the warmth of the tea may also help to settle your stomach - add a little honey or agave to increase your blood sugar a bit and that may also help to reduce nausea. Hang in there, mama, it will be over soon - and it is so, so, worth it.
