This is the correct tip for nearly all through-hole soldering. As always with Hakko, it’s high quality and performs extremely well. Take care of it by keeping it clean and tinned and it should last a very long time. The value and longevity are dependent upon care and use.

I am please that this fits my 853D solder station. to me it seems to be a much better tip than the included tips with the solder station. I will definitely purchase Hakko again.

As far as I can tell, this is the same tip that comes with the Hakko FX-888 soldering station. I didn't realize that when I bought it but have since decided that it's a good one to have for a spare. It's a good all-around tip for through-hole electronics soldering. The tip is not perfectly smooth (it has small machine marks on the surface), but despite that it has good heat delivery, it's small enough to get in there and is shaped well for good contact. Don't be confused by Hakko tip part numbers. They're very simple. The Hakko FX-888 station uses T18-series tips. The -D16 is a chisel tip which is 1.6mm wide. The -D24 tip is 2.4mm wide. If you own a hakko fx-888 and you do through hole soldering work on circuit boards this should be your main tip! Like a conical but with a tiny wedge on the end to easily heat both the part and the board. Pay the extra money and get this. The knockoffs rarely get the inside diameter of the heads perfect and you can easily tell the lack of performance and heat transfer. Buy this head, tin it and clean it after a day, it will easily last a year of projects. Big ups to my favorite brand Hakko
