Murach's Visual Basic 2015

First Murach's book I've had, and definitely won't be the last
This is my first experience with a Murach's book, but I really enjoy this book. It functions really well as a reference book, but one can also read it like any other book since it has projects that it walks you through as the chapters progress. I've been programming for several years, but have never really gotten deep into .Net before now, so I use this book at my job fairly often. Never lets me down! I do wish it was a bit longer (funny to say that about a 1,000+ page book) and that it covered content such as multithreading and similar things, but it's definitely still a 5 out of 5 book.

Very easy to read and understand VB book
I'm about 1/3 of the way through this book. I'm a novice (hobbyist) VB programmer and have found this book very helpful. I've picked up several tips and it is also a good reference book. Very Satisfied!

Excellent training resource and reference for database apps
As an experienced programmer but new to Visual Basic, I consider this to be an excellent training resource and reference. It uses a topic-based approach that brings related concepts and functions together. Throughout the book, you’ll find descriptions of a topic on the left page, then on the right page you’ll find bullet-point summaries, screen shots, syntax and examples of code from actual applications. It’s self-paced and includes excellent training exercises.Revision: I originally rated this 5 stars, but the more I used it the more limitations I discovered. For example, the applications I develop require data/line graphics and printing capability. Not in the book. If you specialize in database applications, you're good; otherwise, you'll have to find other resources.

Murach is always a good choice for me.
But then I love anything Murach publishes. I just wish he would delve into VBA and make a broader swath of choices. Too many titles are web-based tutorials, and I'm not an Internet coder. But, I do love the writing style of the books I can buy.

A good read!
I just started this book but I am finding it awesome, it really breaks things down for the beginner and makes VB easy to understand and the things you already understand you can skim through without getting lost.

I highly recommend this book
I highly recommend this book. I have taken some video courses on Visual Basic, and I have learned some things from them, but this book really feels in the gaps. I like the structure of the book with the reading on the left side and the code examples and summary details on the right side. Anyone who is new to programming should consider this book.

Dont download the solution files!
I liked the book. However, I downloaded the solution files from their website and got 5 trojan virus's. I had to reinstall Windows on three PCs. When I complained to the author, I was told that it could be my anti-virus software being too sensitive. I have years of experience in data processing and I am upset that they would blame the customer for their mishaps. It's a good book, but be CAREFUL of their downloads.

An excellent reference.
An excellent reference...comprehensive. It's a big book, kinda spendy, but indispensable for anybody that does a serious VB 2015 programming.

Despite its price, a great value book packed with useful material.
This is one of the best books I've ever read for programming. It is suitable for any level of programmer from beginner up. I believe a seasoned professional will find useful material there. I am an amateur programmer and this book has enabled me to get a visual basic program up and running well. It is obvious that Ms Boehm is an experienced programmer and she writes from considerable experience. The book doesn't cover every single control and every single property. If it did, it would be an enclyopaedia and prohibitively expensive. One would most likely do most of your work with about 20% of VBs features. This book aims to cover this. It also tells you how to get additional information for other features. It isn't a cheap book but you will certainly get what you pay for. A great feature is detailed text is on the left side of an opening with code examples and a summary on the right. This makes it easy to see how the text is related to the examples. Being such a quality book, I have no hesitation in giving it five stars.

Eccelente
Libro fatto molto bene.

Not for beginners
I bought the 2005 book when it came out and at first gave it a 1 star. After taking a class on VB and SQL I found it a highly valuable reference book and changed my review to 4 stars. My initial reaction to 2015 was the same. I'm frustrated with how much variable declaration has changed and the way it's presented in the book. I managed to get to page 150 and then put it under the couch where it has sat for a year. It's back on the coffee table now, waiting for me to get the courage to open it again...
