This wooden mill is really very nice. It has an attractive, traditionally-turned finish and the forget-me-not blue colour is pretty. The painted wood doesn’t look like wood (it has an extremely high-shine finish and the paint is very thick, giving it quite a plasticky appearance) until you turn it upside down – the paint is much thinner around the grinder – or open the top, as inside is unfinished wood. The mill feels sturdy and well made.I was given the pepper mill to review through the Vine review programme, and liked it enough to buy the accompanying salt. Both work effectively, and these really reminded me of a set my parents had when I was little (by the same brand) – so serve up a healthy dose of nostalgia with my seasonings.

This is my second Cole & Mason salt grinder—love! The red is bright & cheery, like British Redcoat by L’Oreal. IT WORKS!In the past I bought two red Peugeot salt grinders because I love their pepper grinders, but they didn’t grind at all. A friend recommended Cole & Mason, now I’m a fan.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. *****BUYERS BEWARE***** DO NOT BUY ANY OF THESE. My next call is to Amazon to get this OFF THE SITE!!!! Please be aware the paint grinds off the shaker directly into the salt. You are then consuming PAINT!!!!!! EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!!
