Got screwed over by their return policy.
Bought this with high hopes, but was also aware that people have issues with the sock fitting and false positives caused from that.Tried it on for our baby, the sock did not fit well, so we waited for a couple of weeks for the baby to grow and try it again - same thing, it did not fit well and that kept firing off the yellow alarm.By that time we were also more calmer about wanting to monitor our baby at night, so I decided to return the devices as a part of their 45 days satisfaction guaranteed policy. Except what they dont tell you is that first you pay for the return shipping yourself, and because the package was opened, they also take a 15% restocking fee. Meaning I just dumped over $70 for something I did not use and was supposed to be able to return if not satisfactory.Extremely disappointed.

A pretty terrible product
0. (Edit) we have now had the sock for 14 months and it no longer charges. I got a new cable but the problem seems to be the sock itself. The warranty is only 1 year (though it's recommended use is 18 months), so that's $300 down the drain1. We have had the monitor for a week, and of that the owlet servers have been down for 2 days (71% availability) which in turn prevents the app from functioning. This, of course, begs the question: why in the world does my baby's data need to be uploaded to owlet servers just to show me her heart rate and oxygen levels? Why are they collecting data at all? Why can't I opt out of it? Doesn't the functionality of the device suggest that the base only needs to talk to the sock and my phone? If the base and sock are already connected with Bluetooth, why can't my phone be as well? I realize this would limit the distance between my phone and the base, but I'd at least like the option for going offline.2. The app constantly gets stuck at "attempting to connect to base station." More often than not, it seems that the app isn't even working, which is both worrisome and, frankly, an outrage given the lofty price tag on this device.3. The documentation is outdated and poorly written. The text is riddled with typos and references a UI that no longer exists.4. The sock is very sensitive to disconnectivity and plays an ear-splitting alarm on the phone and the base that you have to rush to turn off. There does not seem to be a way to lower the volume or temporarily disable the alert on the phone (if one parent goes to bed while the other watches baby). Coupled with the amount of false alarms that the sock generates, it hardly contributes to a good night's sleep. We really can only use it in conjunction with someone watching baby anyway.5. The base cannot connect to guest wifis that require accepting terms and conditions. This prevented us from testing the sock at the doctor's office, but would also prevent us from using the sock at most hotels.6. The sales pitch preys on anxious new mothers, convincing them to pay up for a better night's sleep while shipping a sub-par product that can trigger more anxiety than it soothes (like the heart attack when the sock is disconnected for a second or two before it fixes itself)7. Apparently there is an "advanced" app for the sock that you can /subscribe/ to for another $10 a month, as if essentially paying for a smartphone for your baby isn't already enough.8. The text in-app is often garbled and has missing characters (likely some encoding problem from Owlet)9. *Any* movement from baby (or from parents rocking baby to sleep) causes the data to be ignored, so in reality the sock is only useful when baby is completely still while sleeping and there is no guarantee that the alarm will fire if baby is moving frantically (say, because she is struggling to breathe)After shelling out $300, I hoped for a product that was at least semi-reliable, but I am instead extremely disappointed. It is a good idea in the end, and there isn't much out there like it, but it only offers peace of mind when it works, which is rare, and adds one more thing to the list of worries: Is the Owlet working right now? It is hard to sleep with any sort of trust in this system since it seems extremely susceptible to failure at any moment and without notice. I could well go to bed thinking my baby is being watched when in reality she just has a function-less, ultra-designer-priced sock on her foot.

Burn mark on foot
The sock sensor light left a burn mark on my baby’s left foot. I would not use this or recommend it to anyone. May be coincidence, but the night we found the burn we obviously did not use the owlet sock and baby slept through the night. I worry that the sock was burning her and keeping her from a good night sleep :(

Works well for us, but might not be for you
When my baby was 8 days old, he had an apneic spell, desaturated and turned blue so we spent the next 2 weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit. We were scared to go home because we didn't know if these episodes would come back again after being discharged so we purchased the Owlet. We're happy being able to monitor my son's heart rate and O2 levels which was our biggest concern. We started off by having him wear it all day and night and the battery life kept up with the amount of time he had it on. Since our purchase in July (now late September), we only put it on at nights and charge it during the day and have enough battery left over for the next night if it's not charged for the day. Monitor will play "Mockingbird" lullaby and light up yellow if the placement is off or the sock has fallen off and can't get a reading. Same lullaby will play if the base gets disconnected from the sock and will light up blue which are the 2 most common reasons why the monitor goes off. Personally it doesn't bother me when that happens, but I know some people hate it and consider it a 'false' alarm. The monitor will turn red and make a really loud annoying sound to notify you of any abnormal changes in baby's heart rate or oxygen level. My kid can get his heart rate pretty high when he's crying, so I turn off the monitor when he's crying to avoid it going off. I also turn off the monitor and remove the smart sock off child's foot when he has a dirty diaper because he can dig his foot in his poop if I don't. Remember to turn off the monitor by app or base before taking off the sock to avoid monitor going off. Heart and oxygen levels are pre-set and there's no way to change that. One thing we learned while being in PICU was not to read the monitor when it's going off, instead look at your baby to determine if he/she is truly in distress.Bottom line, you're either going to love the Owlet, or you're going to hate it.

Owlets are burning babys feet!
It's leaving Burn marks on the bottom of babys foot! I will be getting documentation from her doctor, and will make it my personal mission that every parent considering buying an Owlet knows that it leaves burn marks on your babys foot!

5 out of 5! Greatful for the Owlet. ...
5 out of 5! Greatful for the Owlet. After my son was diagnosed with WPW I purchased the Owlet. He often has SVT attacks where his heart rate rises above 220. The alarm goes off and I am able to see his heart rate live and to make sure it does lower to a normal rate, otherwise take action to decrease the rate. After a scare Christmas morning, where he stopped breathing completely, I am so greatful to have this. Worth the money and then some!Update: I purched the owlet in January. Unfortunately it broke today. I contacted Owlet technical support through the app. The cs rep was very helpful, he walked me through some steps to take to check what part has the problem. That took less than 2 minutes, coming to the conclusion that it needs to be replaced. Being that the owlet is a nessacary for my son I was ready to buy a new one ASAP. BUT the cs rep told me that since I just bought it in January (I didn’t get the 3 year warranty, although I subject it) they will replace the Owlet for free! He assured me that even though I purched through Amazon they are the ones who sell through amazon and hounor a 1 year warranty. I stick my my 5/5 star!

LOVE THE OWLET!
I LOVE the Owlet!! Especially as the Mom of a preemie baby. I understand it's expensive, but if you're an anxious Mom like me, the price is minimal for the reassurance you get. I sleep wayyy better, and love being able to check the app on my phone for her heart rate and oxygen saturation. It's also great not only for risk of SIDS but makes you feel better when baby is sick. My daughter got a cold when she was 2 weeks old and I knew despite her coughing the Owlet would monitor her throughout the night. The alarm is quite loud from the base which you put in your room, and will wake you up if something is going wrong. I will say we had a few alarms go off in the first couple days for poor sock fit, or for it being too far away, but once you figure it out its so wonderful, and we haven't had any alarms since. If you're on the fence like I was, purchase it and you shouldn't regret it.

A must have.
Did you read the What To Expect books and now you're worried that your little baby is actively try to kill themselves? Is SIDS really waiting around every corner for your baby to somehow cram their little helpless face somewhere and stop breathing? Well now if your little monster is determined to invite SIDS to play you'll at least know about it.When the heart rate or oxygen levels get to low the badstation flashes red and sirens sound. The connected phone app blows up your phone too. Sleep easy exhausted parents. No amount of money trumps the peace of mind.

Absolutely love it!
I am a NICU nurse and a mom of two and I absolutely love the owlet monitor. The technology they use in the owlet is exactly like the type of monitoring we use in the hospitals for sick babies. The sock is easy to put on my daughters foot and does not shift or come loose even when she is wiggling and kicking. I have never gotten a false red alert (readings out of range) while using the monitor, only a couple yellow alerts (sock placement) which were due to my own error placing the sock. The owlet has always read accurately while I’ve been using it. This monitor allows me to sleep easier knowing my daughter is fine. Before using owlet I was waking in the night and checking on her constantly and now I know she’s fine with the owlet monitor on. Love it. I would recommend to any mom who needs their mind put at ease that their child is safe and well.

Don’t waste your money
This was the second owlet that I purchased as the first one kept disconnecting from the base station. This one never connected to WiFi at all and their support was horrible to deal with. Extremely slow/rude and left the live chat in the middle of our conversation. When the representative returned, with the “same name”, they had no recollection of our previous conversation. I had such high hopes for this product and was so disappointed. At this price point, and the fact that it is made to ease new parents minds, it gets a huge thumbs down from me.
