Purdey's: The Guns and the Family

Marvelous Book. Written by Richard Beaumont himself who was the proprietor of Purdey in the second half of the 20th century. Not written by a professionel writer who read about the company but by a man who 'lived' the company. Absolute must for Purdey fans and a unique insight into a legendary company for everyone who is interested in a british company with pre-victorian roots. A fantastic book.

As the title refers the guns & family, more so on the family and it customers it,s operations in the the two world wars Etc.,its ups and downes and finance problems in this period Unfortunately it is no longer British Owned which is a pity. They are not watchmakers or cosmetic makers THE ARE GUNMAKERS MY GOD they are only more expensive because of THE OWNERSHIPIf they were less expensive they would make more SALES and would be back in BRITISH HANDS.

A very interesting and personal history of a great arms house. The personal information puts it beyond a simple history.

It is a lot about the Family and too little about the Guns, matter of taste maybe depending on what one is looking for.

For anyone with even a passing interest in this most revered of best London gunmakers this a wonderful book.Complied with care and sharing the same sense of duty to the importance to the Purdey name that the present custodians of this famous marque are carrying on now today.

Got this for a friend and he likes it is just an old book that hasn't been looked at very much or at all probably been in an attic as it smell a bit damp like old books do so it didn't bother either him or myself. Yep seen as out for print its great.
