Oberto All-Natural Original Beef Jerky, 3.25 Ounce (Pack of 4)

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure most of the food people ate for the last few thousand years was either animal or plant . It wasn't until recently we thought it would be cool to put chemicals into food that prevented bacteria from being able to break it down. Now when you consider that your intestines are loaded with beneficial bacteria that do just that so we can get nourishment from our food, it makes you wonder just how good of an idea that is. That's a big reason why I like Oberto - It's natural. No MSG, no BHA or BHT, just real beef that's prepared with simply things your body needs anyway, like salt, so that it last a good long time without refrigeration. That's what jerky has been for hundreds of years. So why do the other brands feel the need to add all that junk? Are they not actually making jerky? Do they want it to last longer then it should? If you like a softer jerky I would recommend Oberto's pork jerky, which is now my favorite. But if you love a traditional taste and texture, you'll have to make your own to find any better then this. It's got a good "chew" to it without being overly tough. I prefer the "original" over the flavored offerings, but that's just me. And even though they use salt, the sodium content is still about half of what most other jerkys contain. Give it a try. Even if you're "taste bud challenged" and don't think it tastes better then any other brand, you'll still be doing yourself a favor by not putting a bunch of chemicals in your body that the human digestive system has historically never had to deal with.

I got these to have as a snack on long work days as an alternative to Jack Links. I wanted a bit less chemicals and this fits the bill so far. I'm not thrilled there's added sugar but it's not much but that was enough to lower by 1 star. My packages were all fresh and very tender. I am def ordering more.

I have ordered this jerky several times over the past few years, but never bothered to write a review because I was satisfied with the product. Now that I have read the negative reviews, I am compelled to comment that I have been happy with all the orders. I have sent them to my son, he loves this brand better than others, and has never complained it is dried out or tough. It is beef jerky, it is supposed to be a little tough! None of the packages have had quick expiration dates, it takes me a couple of months to go through 4 packages (whereas the son takes about a week, or less), first is as fresh as the last. It is not too spicy, the flavor is meaty, the pieces are not fatty, like some types I have purchased. The amazon price beats anything in the grocery, and service is always prompt.

I am on a restricted diet and eat mostly protein, so beef jerky is an easy snack option for me. I was paying $2.95 for the smaller bags of this product at the little market inside of my office building...I thought I'd be better off buying it in bulk and saving some dough. Well, I did save some dough, but be warned - if you are used to buying the smaller packages of this product the larger bag will be a disappointment. The smaller bags have small, bite-size pieces of jerky that are soft while the larger bag contains pieces that vary in size, most are large slabs and they are, at best, semi-soft. I tried eating the big pieces by biting directly into them, but no dice. Since I do not want to break my teeth or dislocate my jaw I am now cutting the jerky slabs into bite-size pieces with scissors. So, yah I saved some dough, but now there's labor involved! I will more than likely not buy this product in bulk again.

Jerky seems to attract macho types who want and praise mightily extreme flavors and spices in their jerky. For those who appreciate more subtlety this jerky is for you and me. It's a relatively mild, chewy jerky in a package that is easily opened and resealed, a nice touch and departure from other makers who simply vacuum pack a plastic bag and once cut open, not easy to reseal.Unlike the super-spiced jerkies, I could eat this all day though that wouldn't be healthy. It's now my favorite of the several Amazon offers.

Guess I should have listened to other reviewers...I had bought the teriyaki flavor at first, loved it, SO tender and flavorful, 2 weeks later went to buy more, and Amazon had DOUBLED the price per bag, so decided since I loved the teriyaki tenderness, I would buy the regular, thinking it would be the same, just not teriyaki flavor...WRONG. I even bought 10 orders of this, over $100 worth, before they raised the price of this, what a mistake, it is not the same. Like others said, it is very hard and dried out, too tough to chew, and spicy, I can make homemade better than this trash, but I am not throwing this out, I spent way too much, my mistake, so don't assume something is the same each time you order it...I probably should have bought one, sampled it to see if people's reviews were really what they were saying, actually, I should have turned right around and bought more teriyaki but who knew that in 2 weeks they would raise the price. I even called Amazon, they said they are told what price to put on items, and when it changes, they do it, no reason, maybe popularity. So anyway, if you trust reviews that the majority write, trust them, do not waste your money on this certain product...maybe the others are ok, I know the teriyaki WAS, can't tell you honestly now.

A co-worker had some of this at work and said it was good so I bought some to try it out. I've never really ate beef jerky before, except for slim jims when I was younger, so I don't really know what good or bad jerky taste like. Personally I liked it, it wasn't too hard or mushy. I really like carrying a pack with me around in my bag as a quick snack.

My fault...I should have been careful on checking the oz size bag and going to local stores to compare. I was lazy and chose Amazon since it's usually a good price. This one wasn't.
